I do not have a 12 1/2" square ruler, is there something else that can be used on the Summer in the Park quilt. I have the 9" square up ruler from Quilt in a Day, it looks like it would work but don't want to make a mess of my already sewn tubes.![]()

I really don't know for sure. You should be able to get 4 blocks out of the tube, and sometimes I got 5. Try to see if you can get that with the 9 inch ruler. You may want to mark the seam line with some of that tape because I don't think it will have a line on it that you can use each time. If they all are cut the same, they should match up when sewn.

I think a nine inch would work fine. It just needs to touch the other side. I have fabric for that and waiting for it to come up on my ufo list. lol

I have the 12 1/2 ruler. I use it more than any other I have. I recommend it!
The 9 inch ruler should be fine. Just like Lorie said, as long as it reaches to where you need to cut. When I made my Summer in the Park I used a 8 1/2 ruler(I think) it just barley fit but it worked fine.
If you have a 6 x 24 inch ruler that has a 45 degree angle marked on it you can even use that. I will echo what others have said ... I love my 12.5" ruler. If you can find one on sale or have a coupon, it's worth the money.

I bought a square ruler set (12.5", 9.5" and 6.5") with a coupon and I use them all.
You should be able to use the rectangular ruler and align the 45-degree line on the sewn line. It is a bit more cumbersome but it does work. You will just have to cut each side one by one.
Thanks folks, I have a 15 1/2" one and several smaller square ones. I also have a 6x24 so will see what works tomorrow. My next order or fabric store trip will include the 12 1/2" square.
I cut the tubes today using the Quilt in a Day 9" square up ruler. I hope they work out OK. I did figure out the angle using my 15" one, marked where a 12 1/2" square would be and the QIAD ruler seemed to have the same angle. I will post again when I try to sew it together if it is a problem or when it is done if it works out right.
I just watched the summer in the park video and it looks like it would be fun to make....but I dont really understand the ruler thing and I noticed she left it kind of " squared" at the corners. Can someone explain this? Is it to allow for the 1/4 inch seam? And what about the rulers? Can someone explain it? TIA!
