    Default Pin left in quilt

Help! I have discovered I left a ball point pin between the backing and the top of a baby quilt. I tried to work it out between the stitches, with no luck. Any suggestions? I'm trying to avoid cutting stitches, but afraid that is what I will have to do.

Good thing you found it! What a disaster that could have been!

I don't know how you're going to get it out without ripping some stitches. I'm so sorry you might have to do that. I hate to rip quilting stitches I think more than any other part of quiltmaking. Sometimes it's almost impossible they can be so small.

I would rip out a seam before ripping out quilting. Seam can be sew shut decently without showing much, but if you rip the quilting stitches you have a better chance of it coming un quilted in that area. if it is close to the edge, can you take a part of the binding off and get to it?

I was going to suggest the same thing as Marilyn...getting it to the edge and only having to take off some binding...but if it's already quilting that would be difficult.

Assuming it is a pieced quilt, I would open a small gap in a seam close by where the pin is hiding and work the darn bugger out. Then use an applique stitch to close the gap. If it is not, then can you make a small clip into the top, remove the pin and add an applique piece over the hole to camouflage the problem? If that looks too much like a booboo, then add more appliques to make it look like a planned event. Good luck.

I solved my problem. I had just started quilting when I found the pin. Since it was not bound, I felt around on the outside where I had last felt it. Reached between the layers and found and removed it. Phew!!

I'm very relieved! This is a learning experience. The pin was where the center of the quilt was and I just neglected to remove it before I started pinning it before quilting.

    Thanks for the concern
