A quilt top made with just charm packs?
Okay, now I'm having second thoughts. I have my materials, 2 printed charm packs and 2 solid white charm packs. I was originally going to make the Whirlygig's quilt but don't know if I want to do that anymore or not. LOL
Here's the Whirlygigs quilt so you know what it looks like.
I'm looking for a quilt top that I can make with just the charm packs that I have if possible. I'm looking to make a lap size quilt, and was hoping to get some of your opinions on what I should make. :)
Thanks
Re: A quilt top made with just charm packs?
And, so what is wrong with that pattern? I think it is perfect for a couple charm packs!! Just quit second-guessing and jump in with both feet!! GO FOR IT!!
Re: A quilt top made with just charm packs?
I like the "Whirlygigs quilt"--I think it is cute from charm packs. Pinwheels would also work. Just cut them diagonally in half and sew them together. Easier but not as different as the whirlygigs. There are books for just charm packs if you want to use one of those. I don't know if your library would have it but you could request it. If I knew the name and author I would let you know but I am not at home at the moment.
Piece and blessings,
Vicki

CJ, What charm packs did you get? The whirly gig would be great, but 1/2 square triangles would be great to!!!

I ended up getting the Moonstruck Charm Pack and then just plain white charm pack.
Re: A quilt top made with just charm packs?
Also I just noticed the moonstruck charm pack only has 28 squares each instead of 42 (whoops).
So, lol yeah. That kind of sucks. lol

I think it will work out ok - here's an idea - if you decide to do the 1/2 square triangles and you don't think it will be big enough - get some yardage in a solid that you like the most and frame out each block in that color? What ya think?
(i.e. pinwheels)
Re: A quilt top made with just charm packs?
I haven't done anything with my moonstruck blocks yet......
Re: A quilt top made with just charm packs?
Yeah, I've thought about buying a jelly roll of a solid color when I get the blocks finished if I want it bigger and put sashing around each block and stuff.
Thanks. :)

I was just looking at the blue swirl pindot - that would be gorgeous - I sense you are a little blue......
Re: A quilt top made with just charm packs?
Well I was the one that posted that whirlygig pattern and I would be awfully disappointed if you didn't make it!
Just kidding. I was actually looking for that because I want to make it with some florals. Now you saved me the trouble of hunting it down:)
Re: A quilt top made with just charm packs?
Glad I was able to help you out Lorie! :)
Re: A quilt top made with just charm packs?
I love this one, it's on my to do list. It calls for 3 charm packs though plus 2 with solids.

I love that whirlygig pattern, its just adorable.
Re: A quilt top made with just charm packs?
Thanks ladies for the extra ideas. I ended up coming up with a different design that may just work with what I have as long as I did the math right, LOL! Not good with math, so hopefully I did it right ha.
Here's what I came up with:

As you can see I will have to take and cut the printed charm packs so that I can get 4 small squares out of one charm square (if that makes sense). Then with the solid charm packs I will take and cut them in half, and then there some half pieces I will have to cut again to fill the smaller rectangular squares (hope that makes sense).
So yeah, I figured since I have 2 solid white charm packs (42 squares in each pack) and 2 printed charm packs (28 squares in each pack) that I should be able to do this pattern.
What do you guys think?
Re: A quilt top made with just charm packs?
Bricks! well that's what it looks like to me just from the paper you did :-) I like it!!!
ohhh Can't wait to see it done!

Re: A quilt top made with just charm packs?
I'm not a fast quilter, lol takes me time to make a top but I'm excited to get started on it as well. :)
Re: A quilt top made with just charm packs?
I like it!
I need to get me some graph paper. lol
Re: A quilt top made with just charm packs?
Yeah, I love this graph paper and it only cost a couple of bucks for I think it was 80 sheets or something like that. :)
I just played with different patterns and stuff by coloring in the boxes and came up with this. :)
Re: A quilt top made with just charm packs?
I just remembered that in a school emergency for my daughter I printed some graph paper out. This site even has a diagonal one!http://www.printablepaper.net/category/quilting
Re: A quilt top made with just charm packs?
Oh! I like! Thanks for the share! I will definitely be saving this incase I ever need one in the diagonal. Thanks again!! :)
