Irish Chain (Jennys Tutorial), Need Help
Hi everyone,
I am trying to make the Irish Chain quilt as per Jenny's instructions on her tutorial on YouTube. According to the video, you have one solid jelly roll to one coloured and one yard of background fabric to make a twin size quilt (62" x 72"). For a king size quilt(101" x 101") you need 2 solid jelly rolls, 2 coloured jelly rolls and 2 yards of background fabric.
You sew the 2 1/2" strips white/coloured/white x 1 and coloured/white/coloured x 2. The tutorial says to make 13 of white/coloured/white and 26 of coloured/white/coloured. I bought 2 plain Moda snow jelly rolls and 2 coloured jelly rolls, (Covent Garden by Benartex as per the video). According to the tutorial this should be enough to make a king size quilt.
So here is my problem. When I started sewing them together tonight, I can only get 13 white/col/white and 13 col/white/col out of two jelly rolls. In order to get another 13 col/white/col I will have to use half of another 2 jelly rolls. Have I done something wrong?
If not, I guess this means I am going to have to order more jelly rolls. I'm fairly new to quilting so not great when it comes to calculating fabric amounts. How much more should I order? Also, it says I need 2 yards of background fabric for the king size, but I guess I may need more? Would really appreciate any help I can get on this. This will be my first quilt, and it's my first time using jelly rolls so not very familiar with how it all works.
Thanks
Ro
