Does a border have to be one continuous piece or can or should you put a seam in it?

I make my borders into a continuous length of fabric by sewing the long pieces together. The way I sew makes the seams diagonal so they fit the quilt better.

Jeanette is right, putting in a diagonal seam hides the seam nicely, althought I've done lots of borders with two pieces seamed together straight. Sometimes it just takes too much money to buy enough yardage to have the borders all one piece. And once they are quilted you can hardly find a seam in them anyway. Got a picture to show us of the quilt that needs a border? I love show and tell!

Very nice quilt and fabric - I have used this pattern and have loved it!
Four inches sounds perfect. You're almost done with the top! Yay!

Wow, that is going to be a stunning quilt!
I really wanted to do a grey border with a black binding but Fabricland didn't have anything that matched up with the grey in Little Black dress.
This is for my friend that hinted she would like a quilt in blue. LOL. I just couldn't find anything I liked in blue...it's not one of my favorite colors. I know she will love it all the same.
Oh, I'm sure she will Love it - it's beautiful!!!! ......and black for the border will blend in nicely, no matter how you piece it!

I really need to get off the exclamation point.
It may give people the idea that I'm bright and cheerful all the time....
