Another Newbie!!! Beginner from South Carolina
Hi All!
I am so happy to have found this site. I joined a few months ago and have been
trying to find my way around and reading a lot. I found you thru some of Jenny's youtube
videos, they are great too! I am wanting to learn quilting and how to make those gorgeous
quilts like I see in the picture albums.
I can sew straight lines, thread the machine, and fill the bobbin thread:). I did make a "quilt"
a few years ago without any type of instructions. Lol I did not do it anywhere close to being
the correct way but it did hold together for a long time.
So here I am, ready to learn how to do it the correct way.
I appreciate all the information you all have shared on this forum to help others learn too.
Right now I am wanting to make a rag quilt for my new baby nephew:icon_woohoo:
Problem is I bought fabric at a local fabric store (flannel) and I washed it today and it is
very stringy on the edges and full of fuzz balls. Oh and it is thin.:(. I am soo not going to make
a quilt out of this stuff for a new baby. I am going to buy it here, as I should have in the first place.
Hopefully it will turn out nice enough to post pictures in a couple of weeks. Any tips on the rag quilting
would be great, and I will look around on here for info also.
Looking forward to making new friends with you all too, Pennie

Welcome from Florida!
I have never completed a rag quilt (I started one years ago) so I don't have any advice to give, but I am sure there are others that do.

I just wanted to say "hello" from Connecticut. I am a new quilter and have never made a rag quilt, but I am sure someone will be able to help you.

Thank you all for the links and the warm welcomes. Granny Fran I checked out the woolies, I think once I get a couple rag quilts made I am going to use those to make me my own a rag quilt for myself, the polka dots look marvelous. with fall coming soon there should
be more inside time and more time to work on making quilts. Can't wait for cooler weather my self. Going to check out the tutorials
you ladies were kind enough to post the links for and see what I can learn while waiting for my fabric order to arrive. Thank you again.

Hello and welcome from North Carolina. I've made one rag quilt with cotton layer cake on both sides and flannel in the middle. Found out that there was a lot of lint and strings to deal with after its first washing. By wash number 4 it was more manageable!!!
Best of luck on your quilting! Glad you found us!
Re: Another Newbie!!! Beginner from South Carolina
Welcome to the forum from Missouri. One of the important things is not to wash your flannel until the quilt is done...then you wash the quilt and the fluffy fringe happens. I have a page of notes on making rag quilts in my User Notes. Just click under my picture here and then View Profile and then User Notes.
