  1. I am new to this forum and fairly new to quilting. I made four place mats using the Tumbler template for charm packs. I love how it looked and decided to put a border around it. Watching one of Jenny's you tube videos she said to sew with the border strip on top so the feed dogs don't grab it. Now I did the little trick with seams so I could butt them up and get the corners to meet and it worked like a charm. My problem and question is, with seams facing up and down on the back of my place mat and the border strip on the top, the seams that are facing the foot always gets turned backward. I had to take a couple stitches out and re-sew them. Since I can't see the seams underneath and use a stilleto to hold them down like when the piece is facing me, how can you prevent this from happening? Thank you for any suggestions.
