About Maribele
Biography:
I taught myself to sew starting at age 10 with Barbie doll dress patterns (the very first Barbie doll!) My dad said, "if you can make a tiny doll dress like that then you can make yourself a dress"! I hadn't thought of that... so I did and that's where it all started... My grandmother was a quilter and one day, in the 70's, I saw some old crazy quilt blocks of hers that were paper pieced on newspaper. Well the gears started rolling and before you know it I was figuring out how to quilt, as there was little information about it at that time - no internet, no patterns, no quilt shops... and I've been doing it ever since. My favorite things to make besides quilts are: totes/purses, decorative pillows, household items, table runners, etc... I don't sew clothing anymore except for an occasional item; I quit that when my children outgrew "homemade". But I do have an embroidery machine I use often. At the moment I have 4 machines and a serger, two of them also embroider, one is just for quilting on a frame and one is for taking to classes. I often teach others quilting and other favorite projects. I am a member of the "American Sewing Guild" and that has been an enjoyment to sew with other like-minded women. My folks were from Missouri, they came west in 1936; and I still have many relatives in the mid-west... I've found my quilting home with the MSQC.
