About Mariah Jean
- Biography:
- I was introduced to hand quilting in 1977 by a wonderful group of Mennonite women. I'd already been sewing since my teens. After making a dozen quilts back then, my sewing of any sort tapered off and gradually ended all together until about 2 years ago. I was introduced to machine embroidery. The came at the perfect time in my life having had many years with depression and chronic illnesses. I was able to manage my work life to relieve much stress causing my depression. My weight also was a factor and at age 65 I chose to have a gastric bypass. A hundred pounds lighter and a new lease on life has been largely helped by my renewed interest in sewing. And my granddaughter. I have found something I like more than food (greatly helping my lifestyle change). Machine embroidery got me started but now quilting takes a front seat, although I like to combine the embroidery and the quilting. FYI, I have to expound a bit on my health since weight loss. I no longer have diabetes, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, sleep apnea, knee pain, urinary frequency, and am not depressed. It's a great feeling and new beginning. I look forward each day to new opportunities for growth through improved health and new friends.
