    Default QUILTS OF VALOR

Have any of you done any quilting for Quilts of Valor? If so, would you be willing to point me to your pictures? A friend of my son is away for his FOURTH deployment, I'm making him a quilt, and I would LOVE some inspiration from all you talented quilters!!!

My suggestion would be to google Quilts of Valor to get an idea of what they do, and see pics of some of the quilts they have distributed. I am going to make one once I am done with my current project (Cardinal Glennon PICU quilts). Then will need to start n DGD's quilts for Christmas, and one for a friend (hers will be easy, she wants a rag quilt). Definatley on my to do list. God Bless you for wanting to do this.

Libby, if you go to Fabric.com and type in "valor" you can get a lot of inspiration there. There is a panel on the 2nd page that I have been wanting to get for my nephew - right now it is on "sale" and unavailable till after the "sale" ends, grrr. But the fabrics are beautiful! Oh wow, just went and checked out "Quilts of Valor" and there is a whole table of Do and Do Not listed there!

The first, and so far only, quilt I have ever made was a Quilt of Valor. I pieced together top so quickly, I even shocked myself. I used precuts American Banner Rose Charm Pack, but took out all the flowery charms, and then filled in with more blue and red stars material. It was not the most cost effective way to do it, but I was really surprised at how quickly it came together. You can find a pic of mine in my album, the tumbler one. Make sure you post pics, we all love to be inspired!

Susan I love your quilt! A tumbler quilt was actually my first thought, but some of my prints are fairly big and I wanted to show them off. Thank you SO much for your response!

Kathy, I've been to the "Quilts of Valor" website and was a bit turned off by the "do and do not list". I like the fact that I know this young man I'm making this for. I'm fairly new to quilting and my first thought was....what if I make a mistake and do something they don't want? Will my quilt just sit with no home?

Marilyn, I am making this for a high school friend of my son. I lost track of him for several years after the kids left home and have recently reconnected with him on Facebook, he's married with children and as wonderful as I remember him. When he got deployed for the 4th time....I was overwhelmed with the need to make this for him.

So, I settled on the D9P. I've made one or two, it's an easy pattern, goes together quickly and will show off my fabric selection nicely. I want it in his hands YESTERDAY!

Thank you all for your responses!

My boss (my quilting ninja!) has a friend who teaches 2nd grade on a base in Germany. Nearly all the children in her class have fathers who have been deployed. Her students each did a block for their dads using fabric paint and sent them here for my boss to make a quilt. It's hanging in the school and made the local papers. VERY special!

Thanks for all the input ladies! I'm inspired!
