Default 1/4 seam not as scant as I thought

New to quilting and have made a couple of rag quilts and a fence rail. Decided to try something with more piecing. Found pattern called Taking Turns in quilting magazine that included a four patch a couple of blocks and some sashing. How hard could it be?
Spent the day cutting and put the first block together only to find out that what I thought was a scant 1/4 inch wasn't. Went back to basics and finally got needle position set and after becoming friends with seam ripper tried again. Got closer the second time. With practice I'm sure it will get better but right now it's close enough . Time to walk away and start again tomorrow.

I second that Auntpigglypn. I never do a scant, as long as you are consistent your pieces should fit. Unless your doing HST then there's no help lol you kinda get what you get! I have a 1/4 foot and use it on all piecing and it has made quilting so less stressful, after all it should be fun!! Happy Quilting!

Well piecing went better today. I use my needle position to the right and the edge of my presser foot as my guide, guess I wasn't being as consistent as I thought so put some masking tape down as a guide. Seams are fitting together better. Thanks for your support. Janet ;-)

My old arch enemy the scant!!! I learned it the hard way. Lost a bunch of points on my stars on one of my quilts. Once I figured out how to set it up properly though, no problems. Think I may just tackle that star quilt again too.....
