Default I Don't Like This Binding

I sewed a binding on, stepped back and thought - not a great choice!
I am far too lazy to re-do it. It's a gift anyway so I will just let it go.

But, what would you do? When you don't like something you just sewed on - like the binding - do you unpick and redo or just let it be?

I would if it was a single block or something minimal. The biggest I ever did was rip of two sides of a border that I realized wasn't working - thankfully I only got half of it on.

I've been lucky. That's one problem I have encountered. It would depend on just how much I disliked my choice as to whether I would remove it. If I really hated it I'd probably remove it and start over.

I'm in the process of ripping a binding off right now. I sewed it to the back and thought oh well I'll just machine sew it to the front and then when I got it all on and was getting ready to use the binding tool I hadn't left the tail on the first end. And to answer your question, like Rebecca, if I really hated it I'd take it off and start over.

This one made me laugh. I just got thru ripping a binding off. It really isn't that difficult. And you would be happier in the end.

Rachel the ripper is my name way to much! I just ripped borders off last week and redid them.....they needed a solid to break up the busyness. I also have found recently when I was going to rip another border that it could easily be fixed instead with applique. I have never been a huge fan of applique but I have found in small doses it's great!!!

I've got a quilt that bled. Oddly enough it's just barely noticeable on the front. On the back it's another story. This very dark turquoise flannel bled on the back of the quilt (white), but only at the intersections of stitching where I quilted it. Really weird. Forget ripping off the binding. I am literally going to CUT the binding off the border, add another backing to cover up the places where the flannel bled on the back of the quilt and bind with something totally different. Otherwise, that quilt will be stuck away in a drawer or thrown away. Believe me, I wouldn't even want to give it to charity with it looking like that!

I've decided that this tiny washing machine in the flat doesn't use much water when it washes. Therefore, the dye is even more concentrated than if it was washed in a regular machine where the tub is almost completely filled with water. I washed in cold water, through a cup of vinegar in there and added two or three color catchers and it still bled. With all the talk about bleeding fabric you would think I'd know better. Why does one always learn the hard way?

if the border is wide enough, cut it off.. you'll loose 1/2".. that is not much, and it is fastewr than ripping.

I made a tablerunner with batiks and the same thing happened....but only the blue and green squares....didn't bleed on the front only on the back....but it's for me so I won't fret over this one. It was a charm pack....Triple Dyed by Benartex Fabrics.

It would depend on how important the finished quilt was to me and exactly how much I disliked the binding. I think I would try to live with it for a few days and see if my feelings about the binding changed.

I think it would depend on how much I hated it. If I don't like it though, off it would come....kinda like Martha Stewart that way....it is supposed to be right and it isn't.....this is not a good thing...
