Warning! Dakota Cabin Quilts-North Dakota
I just want to give everyone a heads up on an online quilt shop. On April 24th I placed an order for 6 yards of batik. I received a confirmation email for my order and all was paid for. On April 26th, I received an email that my order had shipped-great! I had it shipped to my mom's place in Iowa as I was going to be in Iowa the first two weeks of May. Well, on May 12, I came back to Iceland without my fabric. It still had not arrived. On May 14th, I sent an email to them with no response. On Tuesday, May 15th, I called them and asked about it and that I wanted a tracking number so I could look into it. I talked to a man named Wesley and he said he had to go into the USPS website and find the tracking number as he didn't have one. (I don't think that's possible). He said he would get back to me in a few minutes. By the next day I had not heard anything. I filed a complaint with my payment method (Paypal) and also with the Better Business Bureau. On Thursday (yesterday), I called them again and of course Wesley wasn't in and the lady I spoke to told me that it had shipped and that she didn't blame me for turning in a complaint to the BBB and Wesley would be in later in the day and she would get on him about it. Today? No fabric, no emails, no nothing. Surprisingly, they are not responding to the BBB either.

Re: Warning! Dakota Cabin Quilts-North Dakota
Thanks for the warning. I would have done the same thing. You would think they would be very responsive to this. No call back or anything is unacceptable. Good luck and I hope you get some satisfaction and something for all your trouble.

You did the right thing. If I get less than stellar service from an online supplier, I always let them know that I belong to a few quilting forums on the internet and that I will be sure to pass on the horrible service that I received from them. Then I never order from them again. I also will go online to see if there is somewhere I can review the site such as yelp or google.com and leave them a bad review.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having such a bad experience - hope you get a positive response soon. ....and Thank You for the heads-up.

Re: Warning! Dakota Cabin Quilts-North Dakota
My bf is a great believer that if you don't get great service, file a complaint. We've been to several restaurants where we've had bad service and he's emailed corporate offices. In most cases we get a coupon for something free or money off our next meal. In one case, the local manager called the very next morning!! I hope things are resolved soon and you either get your fabric or your money back!!

Re: Warning! Dakota Cabin Quilts-North Dakota
Has your credit card been charged? If you haven't done so already, I would make sure to not only contact Paypal but contact your credit card company, tell them you want the charge removed and get the name and ID# of the person with whom you spoke. It sounds like you may have a fraudulent situation on your hands. The credit card company will look into it. Keep copies of any email correspondence you've had with the fabric company in case you need any proof that there is a problem.

Re: Warning! Dakota Cabin Quilts-North Dakota
reading this and thinking that everyone is correct in supporting you. also. to play the devils advocate for a moment, yes, usps offers tracking service for mail and not everyone cares or knows about the bbb. i had a new transmission put in my vehicle a few years back that was ordered from an online business who sells to lots of auto stores. i purchased the online warranty to go with it. it was a lemon. the point is, is when i got online to file with the bbb and others, this company had so many complaints it was pages long. the warranty was a scam as well. i was out of 3000 dollars and still no car. when i look online for a substantial purchase i look for reviews and weigh what is said. i hope you get your fabric.

Re: Warning! Dakota Cabin Quilts-North Dakota
PayPal is really good at taking care of scammers like this 'company', even small charges, like a 99 cent charge for iTunes that I never bought. I'm sorry that this happened and you without fabric.
I visitied Iceland last year and loved it. My friend and I rented a car and drove north and just hiked and engaged with the locals. We learned all about the history and culture and that you have 13 santa's...or mischievous elves!

Re: Warning! Dakota Cabin Quilts-North Dakota
Deb, sorry to hear you are having an issue with that company. My husband and I had an issue with a tv company and were unable to get any satisfaction until we contacted the attorney general for that state.
Here is the info for the Attorney General for North Dakota... good luck

Re: Warning! Dakota Cabin Quilts-North Dakota
When you use paypal you don't file a separate dispute with the credit card company, Paypal does that on your behalf.
The credit card company will deal with paypal. Paypal will get a statement from the seller, and the credit card company will reveiw it.
It takes a LONG time. We had a dispute against us once, the package label got ruined and the package was returned to us. The buyers wife filed a complaint with paypal less than 5 business days after the sale. They received their package within 2 weeks of the sale, the man who bought the item called paypal and the credit card company and said the complaint was a mistake, but it was STILL not settled for 3 months.
So expect it to take some time once the formal complaint is filed.

That has all been done and everything turned in to the BBB. Thanks.

I will search for more places to leave a review. Thanks for the idea.

That's really bad about your transmission. I just don't know why people have to be like that.

Also forgot to mention. Merchant's dealings with the BBB is all voluntary. The BBB does not have any authority to enforce a thing, it is just a go-between service. A business does not have to work with them if they choose not to.
Make sure you file a dispute with PayPal if you used them to pay for it. Pay pal will work with the credit card compant to get your money back for undelivered goods.

Re: Warning! Dakota Cabin Quilts-North Dakota
Well I guess that is a lesson learned. Pay pal will issue you a refund if there is no tracking info to be disputed. They almost always rule on the side of the consumer. It is also true, sad to say, that the BBB actually cannot really do anything. Next time check with the BBB first to see how many complaints have been filed against a company that you are unfamiliar with. As a general rule I don't do business with companies that I don't know anything about. Any one can set up a web site. If they don't have a 'reviews' page steer clear of them. If it is a 'store front' on ebay check their feedback. Unless it is 100% don't do business with them either. Hope it all gets worked out for you.

Re: Warning! Dakota Cabin Quilts-North Dakota
All is well. About an hour after I posted this, they (the store) refunded my money 100%. The destination PO returned the package saying they did not recognize the address, which was correct on the mailing label. The store sent me what the PO sent them. They did not respond in a timely manner because they are moving home and store. Since this was a post office error, I will give them a second chance.

looking for the 'like' button!
Glad it was resolved and was just a simple PO error!

Re: Warning! Dakota Cabin Quilts-North Dakota
Deb, What an awful experience. On the bright side, by using PayPal at least they didn't get your credit card number! I hope you get this resolved to your satisfaction....it's a real pain!

Re: Warning! Dakota Cabin Quilts-North Dakota
I've been following this saga and also glad it all worked out for you! I actually seached their site to check it out and I could see why you felt comfortable initially ordering from them as they seem legit. I was going to ask today if anyone had actually successfully ordered/dealt with them since they seem like a nice, home-based business. I know mail can be tricky (it takes ages sometimes to get stuff to Canada) so I feel bad for them too since it was out of their hands once in the postal system. Anyway, very happy it all was resolved but what a headache for you and in the end, you didn't get your stuff! :(

Re: Warning! Dakota Cabin Quilts-North Dakota
This company turned around and sent my fabric to me here in Iceland at absolutely no cost to me. I will may try them again and just mark this one up to a postal system error and the fact that they were moving home and store. I believe second chances could be in order here.

Re: Warning! Dakota Cabin Quilts-North Dakota
I had a similar experience recently with Heirloom Patch. I ordered some yardage of Moda Origins for a border I needed to complete. Two weeks after paying and not receiving a shipping notice I call the store number to find out if it had shipped. A lady answered like it was her home. I think she does the whole business out of her home. She apologized saying it's been busy with summer and kids being out of school and didn't get around to call me yet. She didn't have the exact yardage I wanted and asked if I wanted to take what she had left. I told her yes and asked if she'd refund the difference. She said yes.
It took her another 10 days to ship the yardage out and I waited two more weeks to get a refund via Paypal. She never sent it after me calling twice. I filed a dispute with Paypal and finally got my refund.
I'd never order from that store ever again. She's extremely unprofessional.

Re: Warning! Dakota Cabin Quilts-North Dakota
I have never had good luck with pay pal...I will only pay direct with a credit card that I use only for on line purchases. I had 2 separate dealings using pay pal...never again. Have never had the situations resolved and never got my money back.
Never have had a problem using a credit card direct because the cc company has to deal with the situatation with you, not a middle man.

Re: Warning! Dakota Cabin Quilts-North Dakota
Pay Pal will get your money back for you. It may take a bit, but if they cannot furnish tracking # Pay Pal will rule in your favor and issue you a refund.

Yep PayPal is great! It's nice doing it through them because if there are enough complaints and disputes filed against one person their account gets frozen so they can't keep scamming other people.

I understand your point here, but as a past server, I would have to say your best bet is to talk to a manager BEFORE you leave if you have a problem with service at a restaraunt. Majority of the time you can get the issue solved right there. No waiting for coupons, etc.

Re: Warning! Dakota Cabin Quilts-North Dakota
I LIKE Dakota Cabin Quilts. :) I hope this was just a glitch due to their move. I don't work there, & I don't know anyone there, but I have never had trouble with any orders from them. I believe they are honest, hard working people. I've been getting their newsletters for years now, & I've followed along as they've battled blizzards, power outages, & other troubles that come from rural, small town living out in the middle of the prairie. They have asked for customer patience from time to time, so maybe it was just a mess up because of their move. I'm glad to hear they made it right for you.

Ya, they did. I will give them a second chance for sure as they have Hoffman batik colors that I cannot find elsewhere.
