Ever think you bit off more than you can chew?
I have that dilemma now.
One of my adopted niece's is having a benefit auction to raise funds to help cover medical expenses that are occurring while her husband does his chemo and radiation treatments. They have 2 small kids.
So I volunteered to send to her a quilt that she could sell at the silent auction, I am currently working on a baby quilt, it is posted in the show n tell segment here. I also told her if she could find someone to sit at a table, I would make up some ladies wallets and other small things that they can sell.
Then I find out my cousin has cancer he has just begun his chemo treatments, and will begin his radiation treatments in July, so want to make him a D9P, with the main blocks being white, so that his kids and grand kids can sign it. And he can cuddle up in all their love when he gets cold.
I also will be attending Rockers 4 Knockers in Oct. and need to get things done up for it, along with a lap quilt for their silent auction. Rockers 4 Knockers is a benefit where about 10+ local heavy metal bands get together and play all day raising money for Cancer research. This will be the second time that I attend this. (heavy metal is not my thing but its for a great cause.)
On top of all this, I have another cousin who I am making a lap quilt for, and my son in law. And my to do list just gets bigger and bigger.
Lets hope I still have all my hair by the end of the year..

Wow! You will be very busy, but all for good causes. Even in doing good, you must be careful to not over do! I had to learn the hard way to say no. I wish you much success in all these projects and hope you do still have hair by December. Remember to squeeze in some projects for you.......or that you love.....so you will continue to enjoy your creations!
Re: Ever think you bit off more than you can chew?
Watch out! Workaholic is also an addiction, but that never pays off. Don't forget yourself! Hope you learn to say no sometimes and all the best for your current projects.
Re: Ever think you bit off more than you can chew?
I know what you mean about busy! All the kids are growing up - graduating from college, getting married, having babies, birthdays, etc. Lots of quilts to be made, but what fun coming up with the perfect fabric and quilt design that would be appropriate for each individual. I just finished making a chef jacket for my nephew. It's all worth it when getting a Facebook message telling me I am an awesome Aunt. Making something special for my loved ones and seeing how happy it makes them sure makes me feel good!!!!
Re: Ever think you bit off more than you can chew?
Wow! You have a lot going on in your life! You have a big heart :) I'm sure you can get it all done, and I agree with SuzyQue to make sure you also have time set aside to work on a project for you.
Rocker for Knockers - what a funny name for that event!!
Re: Ever think you bit off more than you can chew?
Thanks everyone, I just at times feel so disconnected from everyone. I live in Texas, and my family lives in Colorado and Iowa. Thankfully every time my Cousin heads towards one of those states she asks me to ride along. She lives in Oklahoma, I take the Amtrak up there and she picks me up. I just got back last Friday from my daughters wedding.
Now I am trying to meet my own deadlines, and feeling a tad bit frustrated. Guess that's what happens when you want to do something and have to find the time to do so.
Re: Ever think you bit off more than you can chew?
Busy Busy Busy....but then who needs sleep, right? I am sure you can get it all done, but don't overwork yourself. They all sound like great causes and I love the idea of the white for the kids to sign the quilt. That will be so meaningful. Rockers for Knockers is an hilarious name and it sounds like a great name for a Breast Cancer Awareness Group.
Re: Ever think you bit off more than you can chew?
I always think I can get more quilting done in a certain period of time than I really can. In February I signed up for a quilt challenge at my local quilt shop. Found the perfect pattern that fulfilled all the requirements of the challenge -- it's due June 3rd and I'm not going to make it. The pattern I chose didn't look terribly hard (and it can't be larger than 60" square) but it has 42 blocks of different sizes and some also have applique. I will finish it even though it will be too late for the challenge show on June 3rd, but I'm really disappointed that I won't have it done by then. I have started guessing how long something will take and then doubling that amount of time. I have gotten better with baby quilts -- I'm getting them finished much closer to when the baby is born :)

Tamera these are wonderful projects that you are helping to support. Just remember when you are pulling your hair out, that you are blessed to have hair to pull out. I'm sure that the people who you are helping are near and dear to your heart and so that always brings with it some added pressure to do well good luck with all your projects and keep us posted with pictures....kellie
Re: Ever think you bit off more than you can chew?
Tamara,
I know the feeling although the quilts I am making are not for the causes you are so heartily supporting and I support you in your endeavors. God bless you abundantly for all you are doing to help this awful disease and the people with it. I will keep you in prayer. I know you will do really well and meet all your deadlines. Piece and blessings, Vicki
Re: Ever think you bit off more than you can chew?
That is a lot to get done. But the reason you are doing them is wonderful. My suggestion would be to make quilts that aren't as difficult to make as they appear to. DP9, and maybe even try a couple of quilt as you go ones. What ever you do, God will provide the means for you to get them done. God Bless you, for your efforts.
Re: Ever think you bit off more than you can chew?
Go girl. My hardest thing on quilts is keeping them at a moderate size. Try those 10 minute block quilts. get a top done in a day. Its so hard dealing with the disease, my prayers are with you.
Re: Ever think you bit off more than you can chew?
Take it easy Tamara, you're putting a lot of stress on yourself ... Quilting is a hobby and a wonderful one at that but we have to be careful at not taking it too seriously as then all the fun goes out of it...you're doing some wonderful work so just be,proud of whatyou do for others... Maybe you can be ready for next year's challenge....

My quilting doesn't go well when I work under that kind of pressure. I've been in your position a few times and every time I vowed to never again let that happen again, but it did. Since I'm older I have learned how to say 'no' and pace myself. Bless you for having the kind heart to want to do this for so many who could certainly use a loving touch! :)
