New Quilt Challenge for the week
On Friday, I am going to visit my three grandsons who live outside DesMoines, IA. Two of them have birthdays very close together and we're going to celebrate them when I get to their house. I have fabric for making quilts for the two birthday boys, plus some for their younger brother. The two birthday boys share a room, so I am using the Pirate layer cake (Jenny showed it with an eye patch and sword on the blog or Facebook) with a few added squares to make each of them a quilt. I started this project a couple of months ago, before Patternista and Dogwood Trails came into my life. I am using the double slice layer cake pattern. This layer cake has many colors in it, so I split up the colors for the two quilts. One will get black, red, grey and white, and the other will get blue, green, brown and tan. I bought coordinating yardage for borders. I finished the black, red and white one tonight, except for the binding.
Then for the younger brother, I found Richard Scarry crazy cars fabric, you know, the one with the carrot car and all those silly vehicles. Found that at my LQS, had to get it, it is so darn cute!
My challenge is to get them together by Thursday night to take with me Friday. Oh, and guess what I pass on my way? HAMILTON, MO, going to drop by to see Jenny and the gang, offered to carry boxes for them because they hoped to move to the new store this week. That is, if they haven't taken a vacation to rest up after their watery ordeal!
And I got a surprise when I opened up the tote where I had stored the fabrics for these quilts--3 layer cakes I'd been looking for! I'm so organized, I can't find a thing!
