New Quilt Challenge for the week
On Friday, I am going to visit my three grandsons who live outside DesMoines, IA. Two of them have birthdays very close together and we're going to celebrate them when I get to their house. I have fabric for making quilts for the two birthday boys, plus some for their younger brother. The two birthday boys share a room, so I am using the Pirate layer cake (Jenny showed it with an eye patch and sword on the blog or Facebook) with a few added squares to make each of them a quilt. I started this project a couple of months ago, before Patternista and Dogwood Trails came into my life. I am using the double slice layer cake pattern. This layer cake has many colors in it, so I split up the colors for the two quilts. One will get black, red, grey and white, and the other will get blue, green, brown and tan. I bought coordinating yardage for borders. I finished the black, red and white one tonight, except for the binding.
Then for the younger brother, I found Richard Scarry crazy cars fabric, you know, the one with the carrot car and all those silly vehicles. Found that at my LQS, had to get it, it is so darn cute!
My challenge is to get them together by Thursday night to take with me Friday. Oh, and guess what I pass on my way? HAMILTON, MO, going to drop by to see Jenny and the gang, offered to carry boxes for them because they hoped to move to the new store this week. That is, if they haven't taken a vacation to rest up after their watery ordeal!
And I got a surprise when I opened up the tote where I had stored the fabrics for these quilts--3 layer cakes I'd been looking for! I'm so organized, I can't find a thing!

Will do that!
Re: New Quilt Challenge for the week
The double slice is a great pattern. It goes together fast and looks pretty impressive when finished.
I used that for my FMQ project (glad I didn't mess it up because I really ended up liking that top a lot.)
Re: New Quilt Challenge for the week
I loooovvvvveeeee the double slice layer cake....several gals in my sewing group are making them and loving it for charity quilts...can be scrappy or planned.....good luck on the challenge...you are up to the task...say hi to everyone for me in Hamilton!

I have no doubt, you'll do it!! Probably with time to spare... :)
Re: New Quilt Challenge for the week
I have no doubt you will get it all done, wonder woman. LOL!! I envy your trip to MSQS. I would one day love to visit. Have a wonderful and safe trip.

Jean,
I fell in love with the pirate fabric but I don't have any boys in my 'sewing circle'. You'll have a ball working with it. :)
Re: New Quilt Challenge for the week
Jean, I know you will get it done in time. Have a wonderful trip and a great visit at the new shop too.
Re: New Quilt Challenge for the week
Got one finished this morning, got the second one cut, first seam sewed and the second slice done. I 'll lay it out this afternoon and evening. The first one was the "squarest" quilt I've ever made, squared the blocks before I sewed the rows together. Not one pucker in my SITD quilting! Hooray! Skill level is increasing to make better quilts.

Love this! You are so talented! So, I'm thinking I should probably send you my shopping list for M*, right? I mean, you could save me postage! LOL! I hope you have a wonderful time, and all of us on the West coast will try really hard not to be too terribly jealous!
