    It does look very neutral.

Is it possible your brother mistook some of the prints as florals?

I think the quilt is beautiful and the fabrics and piecing definitely read masculine! I would love to be the recipient of this quilt!

I am curious if you are questioning whether it is feminine because of the word "cute" or something else?

I think it is a beautiful, striking quilt! He should love it. I realized reading this post that I really don't like people describing a quilt as cute, unless it is a baby or children's quilt. Then cute seems appropriate. I think "cute" somehow diminishes all the hard work and effort and time that goes into making a quilt.

Agree with the others. Striking design that is not at all "cutesy" if that is part of your worries. Also the color palette is gender neutral and the patterns in the batiks don't read as feminine at all. I agree you should ask your brother to clarify, but I really think this is very appropriate for a man and given his interests and professional life, an awesome gift. Good luck, and let us know how he likes it.

There you go - I think that just hit the nail on the head. I disliked that description immediately!! I don't want it to come across as cutesy or silly. I thought it was elegant and gender neutral, so "cute" struck me as babyish. I'll ask my brother for another honest opinion because I would rather make something else than give a gift that might be laughed at rather than loved.

It is a wonderful quilt for a musician, male or female. I think you have a perfect design for either. Don't doubt yourself. Anyone with any sensibility for design and form, and music sure fits the bill, will love this. I sure do.
