Default Antique Singer I found on Craigslist - worth it???

I found an ad for an antique singer for $15... in a cabinet...
I emailed the owner, who said it is in working condition - I'm planning on at least taking a look at it, but I'd love to hear thoughts from those of you who have one and sew with it. I'm specifically thinking of using it for heavier weight fabrics. Would it be strong enough for bags, totes, and such? Here is a pic of the machine:

I appreciate any insight from you guys!

Ask the owner for the serial number (if you can't see it when you blow up the picture). Then you can figure out which model it is, from an online list of Singer serial numbers, and from there how much of a workhorse it is.

Someone on here may be able to tell what model it is just by looking at the picture, but not me!

For $15, I would jump on it!

Take a piece of heavy duty fabric and try it out. If it's working that sounds like a good price to me. Some might pay that much for a fixer upper.

That's what I'm thinking... if it truly is working, it might be worth it just to play with it!

It looks to be a 99/99k and yes it's worth it. However be prepared that it might not sew great right off the bat.
These old gals need to be cleaned and oiled regularly and she may have 50 year old dust bunnies and gunk gumming up the works if she wasn't kept up well. It is easy though to restore them to good working condition. I recently bought a 99, cleaned and restored her, and she sews beautifully!
I think the 15s aren't known for going though anything too tough, but the 99s and some of the other models can do it. If she's missing some parts, they are very easy to find online.

    Ok,
I have the serial number - it is a 66, which IS a heavy duty home machine, according to the website that Sonic provided (thank you my dear). This machine is a good one so if it works, it's mine. I'm going to look at it tomorrow evening...
