First of all, you need to buy all the different dies to cut the different sizes or shapes that you want and that gets really expensive! I only bought one die - the 4-inch square - since I tend to cut a lot of 4-inchers. What I don't like is the wasted fabric- even though it's not much. But when I cut the 4-inch squares from, say, a layer cake, I have leftover skinny strips that I can toss into my scrap bag. With the die cutter, the leftover scraps are just that -scraps to toss into the trash.

Anyway, although I do like my Sizzix cutter, I just don't use it enough to justify the cost.

I love mine. But then I do paper crafting so I use it for embossing quite a bit. As for dies... Hobby Lobby still lets me use the 40% off coupon. At least they did the last two times I picked up quilting dies. 2 different size hexies.

editing this bit because I forgot to add... I also use my sizzix to create quilt labels. I have dies in all shapes... when I did Christmas quilts I used an ornament die cutter.

The item I would not buy again is the little travel iron. (Not to mention it's red because that's all they had.) I was just using it for a quick project and it would not fuse my fleece to the fabric. I had to get out my Black and Decker. Had no problems with that bad boy.

I also picked up a plastic sheet thing that's supposed to help me sew on the diagonal. Still sitting in it's package.

On a side note... to the poster not loving the Clover Needle Threader.. this sounds odd but make sure the eye of the needle is facing forward. I've found if it's not sitting right the thread won't be able to go through the eye. Been there, done that.

Oh, Pandabear, I can see the Sizzix being great for crafting! But for now I only need it for quilting.
I may get into appliques one of these days, and I can possibly see my Sizzix getting some use there . . . of course, that means buying more dies.

edited to add ... I like the quilt label idea!

If nothing else, use it for quilt labels. I used a Stampin' Up Framelit die for the ornament. I'm always looking at overstock.com and eBay for dies on the cheap. I believe Cuttlebug dies work with the Sizzix as well.

A laser light that is for embroidery machines. I can't get it to stay standing or to point where I need it. I thought it would work in place of marking for half square triangles. Big waste of money.

Agreed. I love that scrappy table runner project. Can't use the tool for binding though. When I sew the ends together the binding is much too short.

EVERY TIME I use the binding tool, I have to have my laptop (with tutorial) right next to me while sewing just so I make sure everything is correct. My binding comes out PERFECT, but I do need the visual each time.

Biggest waste of money: Pounce most definitely. I bought the Alphabitties Specialty Marking Tools from Fat Quarter shop as so many people raved about them. Waste of money! I'll stick w/ my sticky notes! As a side note, I gave them a bad review and it was deleted from their web site.

I love my Clover threader so much that I have two new "spares".

Holy cow! I can hardly keep up with this thread! When I started reading, there were only 5 pages, now there are 8... guess we spend a ton of money we wish we could get back, huh?

I wish I could get the money back for my omnigrid rulers. I also bought a few of their specialty rulers and they are all a waste of money. I have a huge 15 degree ruler that I have no idea what possessed me. The shop was going out of business and I bought it... for what, I have no clue. :-p. Unfortunately, also my machine. I bought it for the price and I didn't know enough yet about what I would end up enjoying when quilting. I got a Janome and it doesn't have a blanket stitch, which I love... so, I wish I had known more before I invested in that machine. I would have upgraded one model.

Best money spent - my gingher scissors, good rulers, and my 60mm rotary cutters.
