    Question Cutting Minky

Anybody ever have any issues dealing with Minky on a cutting mat? Having problems with wearing out the rotary blade and having to "dig" into the mat. It's making a mess of the mat, leaving all manner of lint and cutting lines that are not "healing" properly.

Is it the minky, the blade, or the mat?

    Thanks!

I just cut minky for a taggie blanket a couple days ago and didn't notice any problems, but then again I don't use it very often. I'm getting ready to start a quilt made with mostly minky so it will be interesting what I think after I've cut a larger quantity.

Are you using a new blade?

It's actually not for me. The person who's asking me about it says she's gone through 3 blades already! But I don't know what size blade she's using - sure hope it's not 18mm.

when I did two twin quilts I cut a whole lot of minky and used the same blade through out it did get dull after I did about eight yards of cuts for them and then more for a baby quilt but that was a whole lot of cuts. If she is pressing really hard it might be more wear but that's wear caused by the mat and pressure. It should not take anymore pressure to cut it or not much more then normal cotton.

Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.
