    Default NCW M&L Templates Question

M&L Designs offers a half-body template. I ordered the main templates, the optional interfacing templates, and the optional half-body template. Now that they have arrived, I am confused about why I would need the optional (lengthwise) half-body template. I haven't made one yet, I have just been studying the pattern and buying supplies.

    Thanks!

Marci - I just learned this today after watching Jean Sewing Machine's you-tube tutorial. The half body template is to use if you have directional fabric - so the pieces will line up and be facing the proper direction when the bag is fully assembled. It has seam allowance built in for joining those two pieces.

Oh, I see. I thought it was lengthwise but actually it is crosswise. That makes sense then. Thank you.

You can also use it to cut your lining in two pieces so you can leave the center open to turn the body with the turn opening in the center. Just remember, it has a seam allowance along the long straight edge, so it isn't a perfect half of the body, it's 1/4" wider.

Great - never thought about using it for the lining and being able to turn it out - that's a great fix - better than the way I did mine.

Did you just cut a slit in the lining in the center? It works just fine and is covered up in the finished wallet.

I have to look for Jean's tutorial. That pattern hates me.

I have taken to slitting the lining myself. Makes the finished wallet look so much better, I think.

I really don't remember where I turned mine, but for some reason I think it was at the top of the front section . . . hmmm. I need to get busy and make a few more.

That is what the directions tell you to do. However, I read a couple weeks back about someone slicing about five or six inches down the lining that goes under that 1" section and I started to do that and like the final outcome so much better. The slit is fully enclosed inside the stitching. I iron a scrap of SF101 over the slit, but you don't even have to do that. It seems much easier to turn it that way.
