I recently bought a Shark iron at Target. It was $29. I had planned to buy an Oliso with a Joann's coupon but they had sold out. So far, so good with this iron, about 2-3 months. My Rowenta quit on me, so had to get something. This heats nice and hot, has good steam, has auto-shutoff but reheats very quickly.
Those Oliso irons are expensive. If you don't want to constantly stand your iron upright get one of those silicone hot pads for the kitchen. It's a lot cheaper. I have a cheapy iron upstairs that doesn't have auto-shut-off. It works great. It is not necessary to spend a lot of money on an iron for your quilting room. I don't use steam in it. I prefer keeping a spray bottle of water on my ironing surface. Sometimes I need it but there are lots of times I don't want to use water. I've never had an iron, expensive ones included, that I could count on NOT getting junk on items I'm ironing. It's so easy to get sucked into all these items we see that we can purchase. What's important is to decide which ones are really worth the investment.
