I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees mistakes. The one in the Magic Squares (I think is the name) tutorial drives me nuts when I see it. I would have to change it IF I saw it before it was quilted. If I didn't see it until after it's quilted, then you just live with it. Mistakes always show up more on camera than they do when looking at the real thing, so it's good to take a picture as you go to look for them.

That being said - love this quilt and will have to try it - someday! The colors are beautiful!

This one is definitely on my list! I could see this in Red White & Blue for a QOV!

If I was ever to make this pattern -and I like it in its classical simplicity- I would cut the strips for the 4P, 2 3/4" wide so that when you sew them together the 4P are 5", like all the precuts. No waste and a slightly larger quilt with the same number of blocks.
I agree. I like the convenience of a layer cake (or any pre-cut), but if all the parts are 4.5 I'd cut from yardage. In no time I'd have enough for an extra block from the same amount of fabric as the pre-cut. Or, as you suggest, change the size of the strips to accommodate the pre-cut. Either way it would be more efficient.

It is a beautiful quilt that I think is a classic!

    I love this tutorial.
And since I'll be using charm packs for the middle, I'll take your suggestion and cut the 4P yardage to 2 3/4" wide. Makes sense! (and no waste)
    Thanx for this tip!

I love this quilt! Purple, green, and lilacs - what's not to love. My OCD saw the mistake right away and I had trouble focusing. I am so glad that Jenny is human! Her tutorials are fabulous and she keeps pace very well. So many others have me bored because they're too slow! Love me some Jenny!

New to quilting this past year, but I enjoy putting a mistake into my quilts (though they often also happen w/out any planning from me) as goes the purported myth about Amish quilters. Here's a nice little read about "Humility Quilts" -- supposedly Amish quilters put an intentional "mistake" into their quilts because making something perfect mocks God.

Mind that the small white squares for snowballing the corners of the "petals" (I think Jenny called them "dog ears") should also be 2 3/4" so they overlap. They have to overlap 1/2" so that the point they make is 1/4" from the edge of the block and the point doesn't disappear in the seam allowance (the line I painted green). The 5" block is the black square, the 2 3/4" squares that you sew on the diagonal are the red dotted lines.

Please. Just show me the pattern and forget the video. Can't follow them.

    This quilt is really pretty!
My OCD brain spotted the booboo too - If it were a scrappier quilt it wouldn't matter to me, but I don't think I could leave it in this particular quilt I did notice the fabric was cut for the center square - must have been a retake (bloopers would be fun...)

Don't know about the Amish, but the Navaho have a tradition of purposeful mistakes in their weavings so as to not make the gods jealous of their perfection and attract disaster. This carries over into their quilting. I KNOW this to be true, since I AM Navaho.
