My wonderful class with Leah Day
My one day class was not enough time to spend with this amazing quilter. I have taken a lot of quilting classes and she is the best teacher I've had in all the years I've been quilting. Please check out her You Tube videos if you aren't already familiar with Leah! I came away from her class with my head spinning with new quilting patterns and a new confidence that I can master them. I'm including a picture of a little sample quilt sandwich I made early in the day.

Is that her 365 designs quilt behind the two of you? I saw it at MQX Midwest last year - amazing!

Re: My wonderful class with Leah Day
Wow, Cyndi! That had to be a blast! I watch her videos and bought one of her Craftsy classes. I love the way she teaches and her quiet, laid back style. BTW, your quilting sample is absolutely awesome. You must be a quick study. :)
Re: My wonderful class with Leah Day
How cool is that! :D Glad you had a great time!
Re: My wonderful class with Leah Day
Cyndi I was wondering where you took the class with her?
Re: My wonderful class with Leah Day
Wow, that must have been a wonderful class! What a great opportunity to learn from the master!
Re: My wonderful class with Leah Day
Fantastic! I'm so happy for you that you had the chance to study with her, Cyndi! Your free-motion is looking very professional. Way to go! My hat's off to you for all the practicing you've taken the time to do to get to this point.
Re: My wonderful class with Leah Day
She is a great teacher and I'm sure she's even better in person than on YouTube. But you are a great student too! Love your sample work! And it's awesome to see a photo of you too. :)
Re: My wonderful class with Leah Day
I am so happy for you to be able to take a class from her and you must have had a marveolus time!
I have followed her on her blog for a long time and she does make you feel that you to can do it!
I think that is what makes her a such good teacher!

Re: My wonderful class with Leah Day
I've seen some of her videos and she has good tips and techniques. She is very good at communicating the lessons, too.
What I'd like to see is someone do FMQ closer to the old way. You did one design per square and not all over. A design large enough to cover a 10 inch block. You can put those in using Electric Quilt, but I haven't seen a tutorial that does it that way. You bought a pack of Aunt Martha's designs and had at it. (I've got some. I cheat and digitize them.) I've never seen a tutorial doing that with gold paper.
That sample behind you is close, but the blocks are too small.
I'm glad you enjoyed it and had fun.
Re: My wonderful class with Leah Day
Cyndi, I think that must mean that you didn't carry your migraine to the class. For that I'll bet you are thankful.
Lucky one to meet Leah up close and personal. She's a winner for sure. I'm going to have the opportunity to meet Angela Walters this coming weekend. Now if we could just get Leah to show up at Missouri Star.
Re: My wonderful class with Leah Day
Cyndi, your FMQ is great! I'm glad the migraines stayed away so you could really enjoy your class.
Re: My wonderful class with Leah Day
Yes, my migraines stayed away and here it is Sunday and they're still gone! Thank you all for praying.
Machine Quilters Expo is a quilt show that come to Manchester, NH every year in April. That's just over an hour away from us. We always go and stay at the hotel at least one night for a mini-vacation. Plus the show needs more than one day to see it to do it justice.
When I heard Leah Day was teaching, I signed up for the class the first chance I got! I was the first one in the class in order to get a good seat. I also went to her trunk show the night before when she showed lots and lots of her quilts. It was fantastic.
She recommends FMQing 20 minutes a day until you can stitch out a pattern as easily as you can sign your name. Many of her patterns are variations of a simple foundation design. The sample shown is filled with variations on the paisley design. I really do think I can master this. I'm determined to try!

That sample piece looks great, Cindyotv. Is she as bubbly in person as she comes across in her videos? I love her easy-going style.

She is just as kind-hearted and gentle in person as she is on her videos. She is a lively teacher with an easy, natural style that made me comfortable from the first minute. Her husband was also there helping her and they make a great team. I am just SO HAPPY that I had this opportunity and would encourage anyone to take her class if she is teaching one within driving distance. It was so worth it.
Re: My wonderful class with Leah Day
Your sample block is very well done. Doesn't look like a sample at all!! Good job.
