I hate the local babylock dealer
I've been wanting to buy the Babylock Crescendo for a long time and I think my husband has gotten so sick of hearing me talk about it (and making him watch YouTube videos on it!) that he told me to just go buy it. The problem is that the only dealer in the state is the one I bought my Elna at and I hate them. They are very rude, I don't know if it's becuase of my age or what, but my money is the same as everyone else's who shops there. So what do I do? I really don't want to spend my hard earned money at a shop that doesn't appreciate my business, but I want to buy a machine at a local dealer in case I have any issues. Am I just out of luck? Honestly, if buying from them is my only choice, I probably won't buy the machine, just out of principle!

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
I see you live in Phoenix Arizona which is a very large city. Look at up other local Babylock dealers and visit them. Make it a day trip. Eat at a nice cafe. Have fun. Then make your decision.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
Are you talking about the one on 35th? If so I know what you are talking about. I went in looking for a foot for my machine and it was like no one could be bothered, I waited until I got home but the shop here is no better. On the other hand the ladies on the fabric side are nice and answered a lot of my questions,

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
There looks like there are several Babylock dealers in Phoenix and more in the state. I'd search for a different dealer.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
That's too bad. Mine is realy helpful. Is it all the clerks or just one person. At my shop only one person (the manager) deals with machine sales. I looked up Babylock dealers in Arizona and there are more out there.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
I got mine at 35th AV Sew and Vac. The service department is wonderful and the women in the fabric area are very helpful. They don't gush over you and follow you around all the time. The only thing I didn't like was the woman who gave the class on new machines. She didn't know anything about the machine. So I have just had to play around with my manual but I think that if I asked the sales gal in the machine department to help me, she would. And, BTW, I love my Crescendo - got it last April. It is very heavy though and I can't carry it out to the car or take it to group - I just use a featherweight for that. And when I had to take it in because I messed up something, someone in the store came out and got it on a cart and wheeled it in the store for me. That is good service in my opinion.

I know how you feel, my local BL shop seems to be the same. I have 2 BL machines and love them but hate to go to the shop for anything. The owner walks around like a "popcorn fart" (Grandpa's term) wearing a headset and if she is talking to you when a call comes in she holds her finger up for you to "shut up" and wait for her to take the call. Every time I go in I feel as if I am in her way.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
My local dealers wouldn't "deal" on the Crescendo but I had set a price I was willing to pay. One weekend in Reno we visited the LQS that also had Baby Locks. Got the machine there for the price I had set. Now I am a very happy girl!
Good luck.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
Where to Buy Baby Lock
Enter your zip code. There are a lot of dealers in Phoenix.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
I would buy from someone else if you can. If they are rude while shopping they could be rude or cause problems when it's time for repairs or questions. I agree with Denise........make a day of it and shop at another business.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
There are only 3 stores in the Phoenix area and they are all 35th Ave Sew and Vac. I've always shopped at the store in Chandler and I hate it everytime. I would love to go to Tucson and look at one of their shops but I have 3 young kids and the last thing I want to do is spend 3 hours in the car with them each way and then try to keep then quiet so I can try to buy the sewing machine! I guess I'm out of luck

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
I hope that you can find a dealer that you like. I wish you lived closer as the one I use has been great to work with.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
If the dealer is that bad, you can contact Babylock itself on their web page. They have customer service and contact links at the bottom of the page. Complain.
Babylocks are usually very user friendly. Someone trying an electronic machine for the first time usually has no problems.
Maybe no one wants to learn advanced techniques and the help is bored.
BTW - Babylock has a lot of free tutorials and patterns on their web site.

Most are free and very well written.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
I know what you mean about dealers. When I bought my machine it was going to be brother or pfaff. I bought the brother because of the sales and service. Pfaff would have charged $100.00 just to look at a machine. I have had my brother dealer fix small problems and not charge for it. No complaints. The only thing is I have to share my machine because my daugher-in-law loves it too.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
I love my Crescendo! If you have a brother dealer you could look at the dreamcreator/dreamweaver twin of the Crescendo.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
You know, I was thinking about this some more. I live on an island, a very small island. There is only one store to buy machines. I have no choices. think of Phoenix as an island and just go get your machine and don't pay attention to anything else. I mean your only going to have to service the machine after that. You don't need to make friends with them. as much as it would be nice that clerks in all stores were angels, it's not jgoing to happen. some people are just poopy.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
I really would complain to Babylock itself. The dealer has to be registered to sell the machines. Babylock would not care for much negative publicity. If the store's attitude is this bad and they are losing sales due to attitude, this would also be of interest to the parent company.
Unlike Brother, Singer and Janome - Babylock does not make machines for sale at big box stores. You cannot buy a Pfaff, Viking, Babylock or Bernina elsewhere than a licensed dealer. The TOL Brother and Janome machines are only sold by licensed dealers.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
Wow!! How do these people stay in business? I am so sorry for the way you have been treated. On the other hand, I would go buy the machine from them because I would not give them the power to keep me from having the machine I want. I had a horrible dealer in the last town where we lived--very nonchalant and the sales person was just rude. I bought my machine from them, a Babylock Ellegante 2 and have never been sorry. I LOVE my Babylock!!! Now since we have moved across the state, I have another dealer that I love. In fact, I just bought a Babylock serger from them.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
Pack the kids and hubby into the car and take a weekend/day trip someplace fun for everyone, in a city that also has a different dealer. Perhaps talk to the dealer beforehand on the phone, agree on the price, and make sure he has one packed up and ready for you when you get there so it's a quick in/out. Then on to other fun activities for everyone else.
I don't know how old your kids are, but unless they are tiny, you could make it fun and in the future everyone will remember the trip where mom bought her sewing machine.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
Im sorry to hear this my babylock dealer her in St. George is fantasic. They even rember. My name. The lady who teaches classes. Really knows the machines and is great at it. I under stand. I would not buy from. A place that is rude. I think you shoud let Babylock know, chances are you are not the only one who feels. This way

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
I have had BL before and I find their online help great. The local store here is sort of hit of miss as far as service. So I've switched over to a Brother dealer and I'm really happy. The Dream Weaver is a great machine with a lot of great features.
Good Luck in your search.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
I only buy from people I like and especially they like me! why waste one minute with that attitude? don't do it! imagine when something goes wrong OR if you'd like assistance demonstrating functions of your new machine? It would be horrible, I would not give them any of my money. There are dealers all over that are so happy to have the business. Baby Lock really should know about this attitude, certainly sounds like it is more than one person's opinion.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
I would never buy from a dealer I didn't like. The service from the dealer is as important as the machine.
-
Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
I really like 35th Ave Sew N Vac (the store I go to is NOT on 35th Ave, by the way!). But I have not purchased a machine from them, so.. . . can't really say. The store I go to is near Ray Road and mcClintock.

Re: I hate the local babylock dealer
Hulamoon- I would buy any machine from a dealer I didn't like if it meant I got to live in Kauai! That's my favorite Hawaiian island!
I would love to take a weekend trip to buy a new machine but unfortunately my husband works nights and weekends protecting the streets of Phoenix, so I have the kids all to myself on the weekends. And they are 7, 4.5, and 2.5. It's not possible to take them on my own. I can barely stand taking them all in the car to the gym 10 minutes away, no way I'd make it through a road trip!!
Bjvarizona- that's the store I go to as well. I'm glad you've had good experiences there and wish I could say the same. I bought my Elna there last March and I absolutely dread having to take it in for service. I've had to take it in twice. They told me it had been used in 1 class, but I have a feeling that wasn't the truth.
