Dog peed on quilt top.
So my dog peed on the quilt top I was laying out to line up the last side on. I know you're not supposed to wash quilt tops, so any suggestions what I can do?
Thanks

Kill the dog?
No, seriously, I would run cold water in the bath tub and gently hand wash, no soap, squeeze out as much water as possible with the top in a rolled up towel and then hang it to dry. You'll have to press it, but as far as shrinkage and a bunch of raveling I think the tub is your safest bet.

lol, it's my Dad's fault, so I don't blame the dogs at all. He was trying to feed them scraps which give them the runs and major skin allergies, so I got after him and the dogs ran over the quilt and squated as they went over. I'll try the cold water, thanks.

In that case, kill the dad, lol. I would use some oxy clean and maybe some shout. I spilled coffee on a top that was finished, and it all came out using those 2 products. If you could serge or overlock the edges before washing it will help with the fraying and strings.

I agree, but I would change the last part up a bit. I would wash in a cold water bath gently with just a little bit of soap on the exact area, I would squeeze out as much water as possible using a towel. Now, remove the wet towel and rolls the quilt up in a dry towel and place it in the refrigerator to dry. When it comes out it should be ready to iron. I recall someone telling me that is how they did their sheets for ironing.

What about spot cleaning with a natural cleaner for pet stuff - like Nature's Miracle (I know there are other brands as well).

My only concern with not using soap or other cleaner is that if you press that pee, it will "set" it. Drying it with heat will, I believe, cause a more permanent odor. Even if you can't small it, they will be able to.

I definitely recommend using nature's miracle or some other pet enzyme cleaner to eliminate the smell as well as the stain. You may be able to find an alternative like baking soda and vinegar. I know that nature's miracle works on the carpets without staining. You'll want to test your quilt for color fastness.
I'm sorry this happened.

White vinegar does wonders for neutralizing pet odors. Just be sure to rinse well, and air dry or it will start to smell sour.
With all our dogs - I buy white vinegar by the case at Sam's.

I would soak up as much pee as possible, gently, with towels or paper towels on each side, press gently. If it is already dry, or after you do that, I would take the peed part, put a towel or paper towel under, and very gently add a bit of water with a tiny bit of detergent added. then rinse the same way, a little at a time. If it smells, a bit of Febreeze might help. Then quick, finish the quilt and wash that thing!
Glad the dog didn't poop on it!
