We went to visit my FIL this weekend. He continues to de-clutter the house following the passing of his wife in October. Last time we were there, I came away with a full bolt of pink flannel. This time I got a bread maker, a juicer (new in the box), some more family history stuff, and 4 yards of pre-quilted baby fabric. The kind that just needs backing and binding and works best if tied. I decided I'd turn it into 3 or 4 baby quilts and donate them to the local NICU in my MIL's memory.
When we got home tonight, I showed it to Jim. He suggested it might be nice to keep one and give it to our first grandchild. He kept saying "especially because of this particular fabric." Took me awhile to figure it out. In fact, he had to point it out to me. Our last name is Foote, and the fabric has baby footprints in pink, green, yellow and blue. The next minute, we were both crying as we realized I have to save this fabric, and give one of Grandma's baby quilts to the first child born to each of Jim's three sons. And if they're girls, I'll back them with some of Grandma's pink flannel. I'm now on the hunt for more of this fabric, because there are 3 other grandkids, and they should get one as well. Jim is already planning to help me make special labels for them explaining who they're from.
