I am living near St Hyacinthe; and Chez Helene is at Upton, a small village; it is about 50 minutes from Sherbrooke. Call before you go; the store is i the basement of the house she is doing long arm quilting too. Good thing I work full time, I have less time for shopping.

I loved my first order, which included lots of notions and fabric. I was impressed with the quality, the prices and the speed of shipping.

I placed my second order last night and within an hour I had an email from them. A real email, not an automated one.

This is the third person I have heard of that sells fabric from their home. I think it is becoming a trend up here in Quebec. Chez Helene must have a big basement because there are LOTS of notions and fabrics on the site.

Right before I started quilting, the three closest quilting stores closed. Nothing near me except Fabricville and that's not all that close. So, I guess the fabric stores went into their homes. I am glad I found Chez Helene on one of my internet searches!

Noemie, thanks for telling me to call first. I didnt know it was a house store, do they have a sign up outside so help us find it? I will check on their site on their store hours.
Rivermomm, I know what you mean about not having fabric stores close by. I drive to Sherbrooke, which is over an hour, and thats just for OK fabric, like general fabric. The really good stuff I have been finding in Newport , Vermont, which is almost three hours away. Yikes! In the Club Tissue they have a smaller sewing machine store inside the main store and she sells some quilting fabric, a better quality then the main store. I find her choices are either limited or not my sytle, and her prices are very high.
I had found a fab small store in Montreal, the name escapes me at the moment, but it is a real gem. It is on the same street as a big camera store my huby likes to go to. They have lots of really nice Moda fabric and a small but very good selection. The store does a lot of knitting things also, but they have sewing machines in the store you can reserve and come in and sew on. When I am in that area I always stop in.

I've not read all the replies so somebody else might have suggested this, but, why not batik your own? It's great fun. If you don't fancy batiking perhaps you might like to tie dye.

Shenna, you think I am much more capable than I really am. Thanks for the idea, but I am pretty sure my first try would end up being a waste of fabric, and not usable, lol. I think it would be cheaper to use the blue I found, there is no way I could reproduce that lovely pattern that is on my orange Batiks. Lol. Thanks for the idea though.

No sign up outside with a GPS you will be OK. They had a farm many years ago; they keep the house (big house). Just send e-mail; her husband will contact you he speak very well in english he will be able to explain the directions correctly. It is closed on monday and sunday I think she is there each others days. She is about 75 years old, she is very experienced and very nice.

Just a FYI for anyone going to Chez Helene, their hours on Friday and Saturday are :9 am-6 pm, and they only accept cash or checks. Good thing I asked! They are closed on Sundays. I cant wait!! The owners husband is bilingual, so no worries there.
