I received a pincushion once and I don't know what it was stuffed with but the pins in it rusted. I still have the pincushion but no longer use it.
I don't seem to have a problem with my machine feet and unopened (or opened) packages of pins & needles rusting. Now I'll probably go out tomorrow and they all be rusted LOL

You have to have moisture in the air for things to rust. Not a worry here.

What a great idea! I've rarely had it happen but it has. After living in other areas of the county, I'll take the moisture to get the beautiful foliage and snow.
It might have been filled with sand from near the ocean. That contains salt which will cause rust very quickly.

Interesting. I haven't had a problem with rusting but this is a great idea for those who do.

I haven't had a problem with rusting... but I always thought pins were made with a no-rust material!
