I attend a group that makes charity quilts and they provide the fabric that they have already cut. They gave me lots of strips to use to make one blanket. I thought to myself....Self, this will be easy...I'll just make a fence Rail! NOT!
Ok, here is what's happening. I was given 22" long fabric strips that are in order of their color, with each color being different, so it's like a rainbow, and they are to be kept in that order and I am to use as much of the strip as possible. There are 5 color waves in each set and there are no duplicates. Here's the problem, the strips are all different widths. When I sew the 5 color waves together, some will be 8 1/2" some 8", some 7 1/2" and some 7". Plus, when I sew the strips together, the front end can be 7" and the end of the strip 8". So I can't make a sq. block. If I add strips to the strip sets, the color waves will be off. If I trim them all down to 7" the top and bottom strip will be very small and will look weird. Currently I cut their length all to 7" so that I get the most from each strip (3), but I haven't figured out my next move. Any ideas of what to do? I may just have to go with the weird look.
I may not have explain it well, so it is probably confusing.
