I have a small quilting notebook. During the holidays when tidying up I made lists of what I had under various precuts/ notions. , kits, planned quilts ect. I also nafe a note where I stored them. Maybe try to have a notebook and make a note when you FO something and where you put it.
I am also bad at things like hiding valuables if we go away for weekend then can't find my jewelry/ extra emergancy Credit card for months on end. Kids handheld electronic game turned up the other month- apparently II had hidden it 3 years ago in anger as they wouldn't stop playing!
