I have some Route 66 fabric that looks like a road map on off white background, with black and beige . It shouldn't be cut up in small pieces or it will lose the map look.....all I can think of is squares with black sashing. Any other ideas ?

I would just cut it down to the size you want it or if it is the size you want it just add boarders to it. I wouldn't even cut it up.
I like Lynne's idea of a whole cloth quilt. Would look great.
Be warned. I am BORED.
This could be dangerous.
When you get cold just go stand in the corner.

A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.

Google disappearing four patch 10" squares. I've just been looking for the same as you but with different fabric. This isn't mine but it's what I'm cutting out now using Music Musical by Makower and Bumbleberries fabric in different colours.

If it's too small for what you want to make, maybe turn it into the center mural of a larger quilt by adding blocks of coordinating fabric and then the border?
You could cut it into fairly wide strips lengthwise and put smashing between. The pattern would be very visible from one panel to the next but still look like you made something of your own from the fabric.
