If your looking for inexpensive and basic I'd try Hancock fabrics, JoAnn fabrics or Walmart. I know I just saw sergers on sale at Hancock fabric this past weekend but I didn't look at the brand.

Editing to add, can you bend a paper clip to get the clip shape and replace it that way? I have never used a serger so if the suggestion is off the wall, please ignore
