organizing of bucket list patterns ?
Hi
I wonder how you all keep all your patterns you work with and want to make ( bucket list patterns ) organized?
I am getting a pretty good pile of patterns that I find free online that I have printed out.
So that I can have a papercopy by my machine.
Now it is time to get them organized.
I am looking for good advice and tips on how to to this the best way.
So it is easy accessible and yet tidy and not laying all over the room.
So how do you keep order ?
Annika
Re: organizing of bucket list patterns ?
I keep all of the free ones that I print off (like my Moda Bake Shop ones) in a page protectors and but them in a 3 ring binder. I also slid other patterns in those clear page protectors too. That way that are all in one place and I just put the binder on the shelf with my patterns books etc
Re: organizing of bucket list patterns ?
I have several printed patterns in a loose-leaf notebook with index tabs on the first page of each pattern so I can find a specific pattern without looking through the whole notebook.
Re: organizing of bucket list patterns ?
I have a few binders like kmerfeld, but I have one marked "Bags", and another marked "already made" , and one with "borders and tips". Figure out what you want to group together and get some binders. I try to keep to the 1" binders. They fit better on the shelf than the big ones.

I should add that I have dividers in the binder so they are not all willy nilly in there :)
Re: organizing of bucket list patterns ?
I save the majority of them in my favorites on my computer. I used to print them out, but seeing the pile grow made me feel like a loser, so I stopped that!

I use sheet protectors and binder, however my want to make and what I can make are in serious trouble

Me too! Then my favorites got out of hand. I have started pinning some on pinterest - but think that will just end up as a big overwhelming looking board too. Now something has to really really make my heart go pitter patter....
I do have a selective list on my phone of patterns I definitely want to do and I try to prioritize it. Designers of patterns and fabric just need to slow down, so that I can get caught up!
Re: organizing of bucket list patterns ?
I have binders ( several of them!) with my patterns in them. I put the purchased ones in page protectors in binders also. I can flip though and see what I have when I'm brainstorming for new projects.
Re: organizing of bucket list patterns ?
I seldom print any pattern, as my laptop is always by my side as I sew. But if I had any, I would also keep them under a protector in a ring binder the same I do with most of my paperwork to keep it out of my desk.
Re: organizing of bucket list patterns ?
I use the binders and page protectors too. Works great.
Re: organizing of bucket list patterns ?
Looks like we have a winner then.
Binders with protector sheets it is.
Figure I got to get out and get me some .
Thanks for all you input!
Re: organizing of bucket list patterns ?
I have mine sorted into folders on my computer.
Re: organizing of bucket list patterns ?
Another thing you might do is have a master list in the front of your binder that has a list of quilts that you want to make and where they are in the binder.
Re: organizing of bucket list patterns ?
Right. First thing tomorrow I'm off to get myself a few binders. My folders are bulging and overflowing everywhere, why didn't I think of binders before especially as I already have plenty of polythene protectors! Thanks for posting Swedish Leo.

And then, make something like this to cover your binder! So cute.

I use binders and clear page protectors too. They also work well for holding templates made out of thin cardboard.
I have one binder specifically for store-bought costume and clothing patterns also. The page protectors work well to put all the cut-out pieces back in one place so you don't lose them (because they NEVER get back in that paper envelope).

This is what I do. Works the best for me. Otherwise I lose them.
For my list of what I want to do, I just put it on a memo sheet on my kindle fire. Then I can change them around or delete them at will.
Re: organizing of bucket list patterns ?
I have the Evernote app on my computer, so if I see a pattern that I like online, I "clip" it using Evernote, and place it in my Quilting Ideas folder. The great thing is that Evernote syncs with my smartphone and my iPad, so if I'm at my LQS, I can easily access that folder on my phone--just in case I see some yardage that would be perfect for one of the saved patterns. I also have a paper journal that I use to make notes on the fabric I have in my stash, and what quilt I might use it for.
Re: organizing of bucket list patterns ?
I got clear sheet protectors and 3-ring binders. I generally put 2 patterns in a sheet protector back-to-back. The trick is knowing when to stop collecting. I have quite an assortment of binders now. :icon_razz:
