Little boy fabric
I just found out I am having a baby boy. So I am on the look out for cute little boy fabrics for a quilt. I am going to make a drunkard's path where each block is circle in the middle. Then I will reverse which fabric is the square and whichs the circle in the next block.
What are your favorite fabrics for little boys?

Re: Little boy fabric
Clean ones....................seriously, the trend right now has been gray and another color-teal, yellow, you get the idea. When I make a quilt, I like to make it big enough and general enough that it will be put to good use for several years. I had a dear friend that made an adorable frog quilt for my first...it was only about 45x45 and of no use except to be hung on a wall....it crushed me as I wanted to use it so bad. But when you start with 9' babies and go up.....

Re: Little boy fabric
Congrats! and welcome to the club of Mothers and Grandmothers of Boys.
I have found it much harder to find boy fabric than girl fabric. Too bad I have two sons and three grandsons. As much as I like the pink and purple owls out there, somehow I don't think any of the boys/men of the family will like them all that much.
I have had good luck with Timeless Treasures. This is a cute fabric! Sea Babes Collection - Timeless Treasures
The older T.T. lines are really cute too and y ou can find them on etsy, ebay, etc.

Re: Little boy fabric
That sea babies is really cute!
You are right about the big babies. I have a 9.7lb and'a 10 pounder hear :)

Re: Little boy fabric
I like to make baby quilts large also. Take a look at the Riley Blake fabrics. There are some really cute ones.

Re: Little boy fabric
I have 2 boys and I actually like to take advantage of being able to use fun kids prints and agree that Riley Blake has some really cute stuff. But I agree on the making them a bit bigger

Re: Little boy fabric
Lucky you! I like Fabricworm for kid's prints. The owner has boys.

Re: Little boy fabric
Congratulations! Timeless Treasures has nice animal prints that would be very sweet for a little boy. I also purchased from M* the Fox Trails fabrics from Riley Blake and liked it a lot. This is the pic of the prints:

I thought the Jungle Club line was adorable. I'm thinking of doing it for my sisters first grandchild due late February.

Re: Little boy fabric
I found fabrics with construction items for my engineer sons baby boy and for another grandson I found fabrics with cars, planes, trains and boats and added in some coordinating fabrics. I made my quilts large enough to be used in the crib and toddler bed.

Re: Little boy fabric
Anything with dogs, trains, planes, trucks, bears, deer, and birds. Older ones like 10 and up, like outer space, wolfs, dragons.
How large are your blocks? If you are doing drunkards path, you will probably need smaller prints so they don't get chopped up.
I think a nice disappearing nine patch would be nice. You can make your squares any size you want.
I'm getting ready to make a BQ3 quilt for my youngest (he's 24). It has dragons and tigers fighting. I'm waiting on him to go to the store with me to pick out the coordinating fabric. He wants it more like a bed spread for a full size bed. So more like a queen.

Re: Little boy fabric
Gosh, you all are making me doubt my choices when making baby quilts. I have been making them small, thinking they would be useful for a few years. We don't have huge babies in our family. And I have just been doing what I could quilt on my small throat machine. Well, I guess I will just have to make more for the kids as they grow. We have two due in March.

I made my grandson a quilt using Dr. Seuss fabric. That is the theme of his baby room. I also had some cute jungle fabric but can't remember the name of it.

For my grandson I made sailboats and a lighthouse in the center square!
For a friend I did tan and blue and she loved it for her son!
You do have a lot of choices. I hope you find what your looking for!

Re: Little boy fabric
Here is Cuddle (like minky) that would make a great rag quilt. I made one for a friend's baby out of color that she was using in her nursery. The nice part about using minky in a rag quilt is it is so much easier to put the quilt together than trying to put minky on the back of a quilt. Here is what it turned out like http://forum.missouriquiltco.com/mem...dle-brown.html

I have found it harder to find little boy fabric than little girl. The sock monkey blocks, I have decided to sort them out into boy fabric and girl fabric to make quilts.

Re: Little boy fabric
I really like the Mischief line from Nancy Halvorsen. It's a very fun line that's been out for awhile, so it can be somewhat scarce, but there is lots of it on etsy.
https://www.etsy.com/search?q=nancy+...ischief&page=1
And a little at MSQC: https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/browse?q=mischief
I cut up one of the growth charts to make a little boy quilt and so far it's looking great.

Re: Little boy fabric
Attachment 97752 My two Irish granddaughters use small quilts just fine. I call them snuggle size. On is Minkee backed with flannel, the other is a charm pack, cotton, with the same flannel backing. I put four minkee squares in the corner for her to rub her cheek on. Hope pix attaches okay, not sure.
Sorry, not very boyish, just showing a small size is usefu, too!

Re: Little boy fabric
No reason not to use 45x45 baby quilt.... Great for cuddling baby, tummy time, and as an easy to manage "blankie" to drag around.
You can always make larger quilt for later.... But new babies need small quilts that can be used right way.
As for little boy fabrics... I have five grandsons.......I think it's lot easier to find gret fabrics for girls. It's a challenge to find relly cute little boy fabric...

Re: Little boy fabric
Congrats! :)
I ordered the Oh Boy! line for a friend of mine who is having a boy.
But I think for a drunkard's path you may want to keep the fabrics more simple, line Ibake said :)
