Cheri, I like your idea. A discussion thread where we could say, "hey I don't like the pinks and blues in the daily deal (or any other precut), but love the yellows and purples, does anyone want to work a swap?" might be fun. I know I frequently pass on lines b/c I don't like something about it (i.e., butterflies, insects, reds, melons, etc.).

Who knows, M* might sell more fabric if there were such a thread.

I think this is different than a swap, because it doesn't involve already-owned fabric. And it would not require any input from M*. It would simply be two people agreeing to buying the same precut from M*, then sending the other person 1/2 of the fabric.

Also, Cheri, I've noticed that the computer pictures don't do the fabric lines true justice. They are much prettier in person. So those tone on tone birds might look cuter in person. Actually, I think they probably would.

Thats what I meant kaydee....an "orphaned charm swap"! I would buy charms more often if there were more of the same print in a pack. Oh well.. I 'll just stick with buying yardage and cutting my own! I've noticed color difference in online vs actual colors too.

I agree Cheri, the hummingbirds do get lost in the flowers and others are just a shadow. The name of the charm packs maybe should have been different because the birds really don't get center stage. I have stopped buying charm packs for other issues but if something I fell in love with only came in charms I would consider them again

What I meant was...I'd buy charm packs more if I knew I could swap those in the pack that I don't like, for something I do like instead of just tossing them into a scrap bucket and maybe using them later as a scrap.

You might want to also consider that by the time you take out the few you don't like, repack them and ship them to someone who likes them, you've kind of defeated the purpose of what attracted to you the daily deal charm pack in the first place. I'd be thinking about extra shipping prices getting those lil babies to those foster homes.

That's true, Carlie, but one thing I do like about the precuts is the variation. I like to make scrappy quilts, and I like the variation you get in the precuts, which would not be economically available by buying yardage. It would be interesting to know how much it would cost to send half a charm pack or layer cake (or jelly roll).

Did you not look at the little picture that shows all the prints in a charm pack? Why are you surprised? Each charm pack has a name...just because it has hummingbirds in the name does not mean each print will feature hummingbirds. Sounds like charm packs are not for you, but in all fairness M* gives you a picture of all the prints in the pack.

I bought the Glorious Hummingbird 10" squares when they were on sale. I divided them so I could get 2 smaller quilts. The reason I ordered the pre-cuts was because some of the fabrics in the collection were not available in yardage. Several of the blender plain looking squares actually have birds in the pattern, so there really are more birds than you might think at first glance. I used my 10" half hexie template to make a hexie quilt.Ok... here's exactly why I dont' like charm packs (let me get up on my soap box....)-hexi-quilt-flowers-oct.-2014-004.jpgOk... here's exactly why I dont' like charm packs (let me get up on my soap box....)-hexi-quilt-flowers-oct.-2014-006.jpgOk... here's exactly why I dont' like charm packs (let me get up on my soap box....)-hexi-quilt-flowers-oct.-2014-007.jpgOk... here's exactly why I dont' like charm packs (let me get up on my soap box....)-hexi-quilt-flowers-oct.-2014-005.jpg I've posted these pics previously, but will post them again. However, I do think they should have included more of the main focus fabrics with the hummingbirds.

I love charm packs! I love variety! I'd never be able to get all those fabric choices without buying a precut! I can think of more and more things to do with my charm packs! And I use every one of them, or mix and match with some of the beautiful solid color packs. I found some really cute ideas for using them on the Fat Quarter Shop website. I have a new idea for a D9P setting that I'm excited to try! I will use a pinwheel block for my corner squares, I think it will really make a cute block.

I don't like pre-cuts because they are far too limiting in what can be done with them (without a lot of waste), and usually include colors I don't like, like purple. Why would I spend money on something I don't like?
