New Year Resolution broken...
....promised myself I would NOT buy any more fabric until I completed the projects I already have planned (and made room on the shelves for more fabric). Well, here it is a little more than a week into the new year and I couldn't help myself. I gave in to temptation and purchased fabric for 3 more projects! Arghhh! And I havent a clue where I'm going to store it - my shelves are overflowing.
My hubby is going to be upset with me - but I believe it's easier to get forgiveness than permission.
Re: New Year Resolution broken...
Forgiveness is a good thing. First forgive yourself, you're only a poor quilter.
Re: New Year Resolution broken...
Bake him something delicious. Or cook his favorite dish :D
Btw it's obvious you bought more fabrics because it was perfect! Storing in advance is like having a full cupboard in winter!
Isn't it? I'm not gonna blame you at all :) 'cause I'd do the same :D
Re: New Year Resolution broken...
Not that I'm suggesting you lie to your DH, but isn't there any way to just slip it on the shelf when he isn't looking. I've gotten really good at coming in and unpacking the bags, quickly putting the fabric in an inconspicuous little spot on along side my stash....seems to be working rather well so far and it's going a long way toward keeping harmony as well.....just saying.
Re: New Year Resolution broken...
Welcome to a very large club. We ALL fall off the fabric diet, some sooner than later. For me all it takes is a new line of French General fabric and I totally forget my resolutions.
Re: New Year Resolution broken...
Don't feel bad. it happened to me yesterday too. I went to the LQS open house (mistake #1). I have a pattern for a nice red and white that I want to do this year. Anyway, as I have mentioned in other posts, we are going to be away on holidays soon and I have been trying to figure out what project I would take with me to work on (until I find the local quilt shop). Well when I got to the store, she had the exact red that I wanted on sale and when I looked at the name of the quilt pattern it was called "holidays". Well at that point my knees started shaking and I knew it was a sign that I was supposed to buy that material.
It kind of reminds me of this-Any of you who are old enough to remember Flip Wilson playing Geraldine explaining to her boyfriend Killer " the devil made me do it".
Re: New Year Resolution broken...
Glad to know I'm not alone in the broken promises club! Hey, it was Jan. 10! Long enough for that resolution to be honored!
Re: New Year Resolution broken...
Adding to the stash....yup.....I now have a $200 spool of thread.
Not kidding, this was yesterday.
My DH just smiled knowingly, shook his head, and dived into the bag to see my new world of pretties.
Re: New Year Resolution broken...
It's okay. You will all make something beautiful with your purchases. I am still only buying fabric to finish projects. At least I still get to buy new stuff that way. I don't know why I never buy the backing when I buy fabric to make a quilt.
Re: New Year Resolution broken...
I find leaving the backing until the top is done works best for me as.....wait for it.....the finished top needs to speak to me as to what color/pattern for the back will work the best to compliment the top.
Now I know this makes sense to a lot of you out there.lol
Re: New Year Resolution broken...
Love you people. And I gave never been a big fan of new year resolutions! The only one I ever kept was to buy a paper shredder & shred documents with personal info before I threw them away. Enjoy your fabric, ladies.
Re: New Year Resolution broken...
We won't tell on you.........if you don't tell on the rest of us! : :icon_rofl:
Re: New Year Resolution broken...
Hey, have you work hard your whole life? You are entitled to the things you enjoy! No guilt here...I earn it...I will spend it! Now I do have to keep the bills in mind too...but if it's in my budget...then....

I know what you mean Lynn but my other excuse is I usually need to save up some more money to buy the back so I wait for the banker to speak to me as well as the quilt. Ha Ha.
Re: New Year Resolution broken...
It's ok to break your "resolution" once in a while! If not.... It's like dieting. You deprive yourself of something and then when you finally do cave... You over do it.
I too am on a "no buy" resolution... At least until June. I did however order the templates on the DD here from Friday... And had gone to Joanns last week and got some thread. My "rule" is that I'm only buying if I need it to finish a project, or if it's a "too good to pass up" deal. My goal is to get done some of the projects that I have on my list before adding more to it. In the meantime, my Wishlist here has grown exponentially. Lol.
I've been a knitter for many, many years. I had a serious yarn addiction. Bought because something was "pretty", or found a pattern for something that I just HAD to make so I bought everything I would need for it. Now the problem is, I've got tubs of yarn, and have forgotten why I bought it. I was buying faster than I could knit. I downsized a bit a few years ago, but have managed to build it back up again.
Re: New Year Resolution broken...
Oh, Jess, I know what you mean about yarn. I had 6 30 gallon bags of it and when my DGS's girlfriend was learning to crochet...I gave it ALL to her. Talk about withdrawal...right now I bet I only have 2 skeins in the house. My fabric stash has grown to fill the empty space though and now that I have an embroidery machine, the spools of thread are taking over too.
Re: New Year Resolution broken...
I broke my promise as well, earlier than you (on the 7th). I purchased more fabric before using up any of my long stashed pre-cuts. But I hurried up finishing projects before it arrives. Does it count?
