Default Has anyone used Angelina fiber?

I want to use some angelina fiber and paintstiks on my next quilt and I was wondering if anyone else has used the angelina fiber and how well it holds up in a quilt if used - as maybe an overlay or applique'. Is it going to slowly deteriorate or ?? It will be for my DD and I'm sure it will be used and washed regularly. I appreciate any and all feed back.

You used to couch over it. Couching is laying down any zigzag or fancy stitch on your machine over yarn, ribbon, etc. I think the other option was to put fine netting over it. Look under embroidery for how to do it.

I've couched over yarn and heavy embroidery thread. The stitches used kept the yarn flat through many washings. One jacket is over 20 years old and I still use it.

Well I bit the bullet and bought some and the paintstiks. We shall see how it all turns out. Thanks for the advice on couching over it.

You probably know this already, but Angelina only sticks to itself. So as AlphaO said, you need to sew it down or use decorative stitches. You can also use the iron sheets and mix colors of the fibers, iron them together, and then cut out shapes for sewing. It does add sparkle and fun to the objects on which it is used.

Check youtube for videos by Laura Murray and Shelly Stokes on using Shiva paint sticks. Both ladies wrote books on using paint sticks. Dharma Trading Company also has some youtube videos. Not sure if they show it, but you can mix the paint stick colors like paint with a plastic trowel on a waxy paper and then use these "new" colors.

Have fun and show us what you make.
