Default Brother machine users...needle position question....

Anyone have a Brother Innovis-2000 Laura Ashley sewing machine?? or maybe just a Brother Innovis? I got one and like it, but upon first start up...the needle is to the left instead of the middle. You have to press a stitch (104) for it to move to the center before you start or you get the wrong seam allowance. And if you use the 1/4 quilting foot...the needle is going to hit the foot. And if using the general purpose foot, no it doesnt' hit the foot, but...you don't get 1/4 seam allowance. I have asked Brother, and they haven't answered (4 days now) and I keep calling the dealer I bought it from and of course, the one that knows about the machines is always busy. It just seems that the needle start position should be in the middle as that is the most common use to start. Who starts sewing to the left???

I have a Brother and I can't even change my needle position, so I have to watch which foot I am using (like when I want to zigzag) or I break needles. So consider yourself lucky you can even change yours. Maybe you should call another store. Good luck.

Babylock machines have this same setting. I reset my Grace, Tempo, and Melody to centre position. Each model had a different button to hold while you turn on the machine to centre it. Once it's set, it stays in the centre.

I just got a Brother SE400 and it was set to the left too. I did the whole second half of my quilt piecing with an 1/8" seam without realizing and had to rip it out. Fortunately I was able to easily change it to the middle position with a push of the button.

I reset my Brother PRW 420 to the middle....love it. I've broken a few needles with that left position. Every time I turn it on it goes to the middle now.

I changed mine to the center position because I kept forgetting and broke a few needles. I Love my Innovis NX2000, Brother makes great machines

I have a Brother machine, SC9500, and the default setting is to the left. I did the "turn on the power while holding some button" which changed it to center (which is what my 1/4" foot needs.) Or I just need to remember to change my stitch selection from 00 to 01, which does the same thing. So I guess it is typical for Brother machines to be set up like that.

I have the same machine--love it by the way.
In the owners manual on page 71 it explains how to set your needle to get the 1/4 inch depending on which foot you are using, it has great illustrations.
Normal foot use stitch Q-02 and run the right edge of your fabric along the right edge of your foot
1/4" quilt foot use stitch Q-01
The needel automatically moves based on the stitch you chose.
    Hope that helps!
i have also sewed the wrong seam width because I forgot to select the correct stitch, sigh
