I have this and it works great for sewing long periods at a time WHEN I remember to put it on.
I am going to get one of those. Looks like it would work. Thanks for the info, Annika!
I read the post and decided not to give this a try. As Leah says herself "it took a few days to get used to and yes, my back was a bit sore as my muscles weren't used to holding up two extra pound of weight." I can also see in the pictures that having the weight on your back will prevent from sitting in your chair properly with your back supported by the chair back. It seems like this is only going to make things worse.
I will keep practicing good posture with relaxed shoulders.
I have back problems, but they don't seem to get worse when I am sewing/quilting. I question the "scientifically tested" statement, as it is too vague for me. HOWEVER, as I see that IrisGirl has given it a good review, I am more inclined to accept the product as something helpful. The power of this forum!
Excellent thread. I've been having chronic back problems for a while now. The problem seems to be a weakness in the small of my back and it sometimes causes muscle spasms (even when I sleep). I can see where it might help. I'm curious to see what more people have to say. Like Sylvia, I'm inclined to get out my card and buy it based on what Iris Girl is saying. I can put up with discomfort for a few days while my back adjusts. It's far better than putting up with these annoying spasms on a daily basis.
Thank you Swedish Leo for mentioning this. Very very tempting. Probably will also come in handy as I do more and more stand up quilting on the machine.
I seen this posted yesterday via FB and will consider it. I have a bad back and lots of trouble keeping my shoulders from tensing up (even while riding my motorcycle) during FMQing! I think I will probably ask my chiropractor first, but very curious to hear from others on this forum.
When I sit in my chair properly my back is touching the chair back completely. There are no gaps between my back and the chair. If you look at the pictures in the video this device has weights that sit on the mid/lower back. The weights are not thin, and the product description at amazon for a similar device says they are two inches thick. This is a big lump that will force the back out of alignment with the chair that was designed to support it.
Sit correctly and relax your shoulder. Cost- free:D
Mine is called body right the posture pleaser It is very low profile. It is a 2 pound weight (sand or something on that line ) in 2 separate long tubes they are 1 pound each. It comes with a third 1 pound weighted tube you can attach with velcro if you need more support. Here are a couple pictures .

The harness is wide heavy duty suspender elastic and adjusts for all sizes just like suspenders. As I said it works great when I remember to use it. If I am sewing for a long period of time with out it my lower back gets spasms that last even when I go to bed until I can relax. Also it makes my shoulders much less tired when I use it. I have mine adjusted so it sits in the small of your back where it curves in so sitting in a chair is no problem. It is not like a brick strapped to your back.
Irish Girl, so yours is the one that is on Leah Day's site?
Thank you for posting this April!
Like others I struggle with back and shoulder issues and was wondering if something like this might help. Found it on the walmart site for a better price and what's nice is that if I don't like it I could return it to walmart. Easy peasy.
ETA: also found it on the Joann site. With a 50% off coupon it's even better priced!

I bit the bullet last night and ordered it. It will be really nice if it works, I'm just so tired of walking around crippled for a few days. If nothing else it gives me a sense of hope. I figure I just won't bother taking it off.
Thanks Sonic! I ordered one this morning, was surprised to see the shipping was only $6.95!
