when my bobbin thread sensor tells me I am almost out of bobbin thread it sure isn't lying

Jill has one of those sensors. When I was trying to finish sewing binding last week, she stopped dead in her tracks!! Had no clue why, then I saw my screen telling me I was almost out of thread. Well, I could see thread still on the bobbin and I only had about five inches to go. Four more starts and stops later, I was done. Went to change the bobbin and it came out empty! I looked at the machine and there was a piece of thread I pulled out.....it was no more than 2" long! Guess she knew what she was talking about!
I learned fast to believe mine when it told me. it will only let you sew about 6 stitches and then it stops again.
I usually know when mine is about to run out.... Usually in the last 5-10 inches of anything that needs to be sewn! ,
My "Rosie" doesn't have that, but my embroidery machine "Pearl" does. It's fairly accurate, but there have been a number of times where it'll tell me it's out of bobbin thread and there is still probably 2 yards on there. Unfortunately, "Pearl" won't let me keep going once the notification pops up. I have to change the bobbin to continue :(
That and needle down are some of my favorite features.
That is one of the features that I like with my machine.
If you are using a finer thread (like Aurifil) when you get the warning you can still have a bit of thread left. When you use a thicker thread you had better listen to your machine, especially if you are doing machine embroidery or FMQing.
I had Bottomline on mine, so I was luckily able to finish the last five or six inches.......
I wish my embroidery machine would do that. And I don't think my Janome 8900 has it either.
I discovered the other day that my new machine does that and she wasn't kidding. I could only go about another inch.
There seem to be 2 types of bobbin thread sensors.
One tells you when you are basically OUT. Stop NOW, because you are done.
The other tells you when your bobbin is low. Find a place to stop soon, because you are about to run out.
I have 3 machines with sensors, and thankfully they all tell me when the bobbin is low. I have time to find a stopping point I am happy with.
One machine though, gets very cranky if I keep sewing. ;-) She will NOT let it go that the bobbin is seriously low on thread. The other 2 are a little more laid back, and trust that I will take their word for it that the bobbin is getting low.
