I have a quilt an hourglass block and the blocks were coming out wonky, but they are much better since I squared them up. I'm hoping they will now be able to go together somewhat evenly. Just keep going

Have a kind and loving day
Oh no: I have some Kaffe Fassett layer cakes that I was planning to use for my disappearing hourglass quilt. Hearing all the complaints about the block and now the fabric makes me want to rethink this plan. What is it about the fabric that is hard to work with?

"Home is where they love you"
I made a half Hexi quilt that I dispised by the time it was cut up and sewn. I posted it here and so many came on to tell me to finish it. Made suggestions for borders etc. by the time it was done I was OK. But to have my DH call it a "Monet" was what made me keep it out and show it in my home!
So I say, keep going and wait till it is all done. Then ask someone else what they think, or post a pic here!!
You could be surprised!!
My friends hear the song in my heart, and sing it to me when my memory fails.

I donated a top. I didn't hate it but I thought it would go to better use before I did. I sent it to a member here that finished for a good use. I won't say finish it because I know how that feels to not want to.

Thanks everyone for the help. I have been using lots of starch and that helps a little bit. I think that it's the fact that there are so many seams and then even more cutting. The hourglass part comes out great but from there things get interesting. The blocks don't look bad but I can tell they're off. I mostly just hate the process of these blocks I think. Thanks again everyone. 😊
Kaffe Fassett fabrics are not in any way responsible for my disaster. I love using them, and have had major triumphs wih them. My problems were the colour of my background fabric and my unsuccessful point matching - all my own fault.
I can't tell you the number of times I have sat at my machine and thought "wow, this is either going to be stunning or absolutely awful when making a garment or a quilt". I have always been quite "adventuresome" in my sewing and quilting exploits to say the least so I just really never know which it's going to be.
Just a couple of thoughts--be sure to put the part of the block that is a little larger next to the feed dogs when joining your blocks; do not use steam when starching those contrary blocks; and remember to breathe. This is supposed to be fun. When it isn't fun anymore, then either make it fun or toss it over your shoulder and go to something that it is fun!!!
I am not an expert, as I've only made 3 baby and one mini quilt... but I've realized that at some point with every quilt, there was something I did not like about the design and I thought I was going to hate it. When I finished them - all of them... I absolutely loved the finished quilt! Hang in there and finish - you'll be glad you did![]()
What I found tough was that they are all high volume fabrics, & I got spooked in the middle! But I liked it in the end. There are some lovely KF quilts in Show & Tell. I had white as a background fabric & if I was doing it again I would go with a dark neutral like gray. Here's a sample block with a dark background -- it really makes the colors glow. White is high contrast with the Fassett and every error showed. There's a lovely Fassett quilt in Show & Tell with green sashing.
So press on with your plan I say! And if you get spooked like I did, don't freak out.
PS I am a new quilter & my inexperience didn't help.
