    Default Jellyroll borders?

I've made my first jellyroll quilt from Moda Persimmon. I really can't get my head around the way the colors end up, but it's just a lap quilt for watching tv.

The dark blue strips seemed to have had a mind of their own when it came to placement. Now I'm not sure if I should remove and/or change around those dark blue strips. Opinion please.

Also, it measures 52 x 66. I am debating if I should add borders. I'd like to just bind it with no borders, but not sure how it will look or if it will be large enough. What do you think?

I think it looks good. The dark blue seems to even itself out throughout the quilt. That line of fabric didn't seem like it had a whole lot of contrast to me, and even sewn together it still doesn't. But without the darker blue I think it might be too boring. I think for a lap quilt it is a good size, unless you are really tall.

I like the quilt as it is. If you need it bigger, I vote for a one inch border, then a three inch border. (oh? we weren't voting?)

But, I can also see if you wanted a totally calm quilt, you might want to take the dark blue out.

I have to agree with you Karen, there's not a lot of contrast fabrics, however, I doubt that my senior neighbor will notice or even care. In fact, I'm not crazy about the prints. They looked a lot different on the preview, but it was less than $20 and I already have stash for backing and batting, so it will not cost much to gift a lap quilt. I think I'll just finish it as is and bind. Next time I'll have to pay more attention to the fabrics in the JR.

I made one jelly roll race, mainly just to say I did one, but probably will never do another. I am too OCD and the way the mismosh of strips/colors turns out makes me crazy!! Okay, crazier!! My grandboys girlfriend liked it, but for me, I need something more uniform in design.

I feel the same Pat. I guess I need something with more of a design and one where I have more control over color placement. I like the JR quilts that some forum members have done for kids and appliqued on top. I might do that but I doubt that I'll do one for myself.

I had several fabrics that ended up all together. I cut out an 18" piece and replaced it with the piece I cut off at the start. Or you could use anything.

I used mine without borders but add if you want it a bit bigger.

Just a thought, if you don't like it like it is, you can cut it, and make blocks............. and then twist them around in various ways and maybe even sash between them, Just an idea. Jelly roll quilt books tell how to cut jelly roll strips sewn together and do many things with them, Wendy B in OR
