    Default Batting Scraps

I am packing as we are moving. I am using batting scraps to pack my dishes and glassware. After I unpack, I will reuse them. Wish I had more batting scraps........................ I am also using large pieces of fabric to pack around breakables. I always hated using newspaper for this and the brown packing paper is expensive and would just be thrown away. So...................... no more feeling guilty about throwing away fabric I no longer like. After I unpack, I will have a yard sale in the spring and sell the fabric that I no longer want that I used for packing. Off to pack some more.

Lately I've been using small batting scraps as dusting cloths--they work well. Good for you for using what you have for what you need.

At my Quilt Guild we make small pillows out kids fabric, stuff them with scraps and donate them to shelters. The children are so happy to have a pillow of their own.

What a good solution. You don't feel guilty, you get to take your stuff, and it is serving a useful purpose. Good luck with all your packing!

Good idea. I have moved 32 times in 37 years... I have learned lot of tricks of the trade too! Paper plates between dishes, towels and sheets for padding. Drawers in dressers etc...for packing space but...pack one drawer in each persons room with 2 changes of clothes. THat way when you get things in the house...you have 2 days clothes right there handy until you can get everything situated! Plus...store (very) light weight things in the fridge and freezer and washer/dryers... light weight like pillows, "nice" blankets you dont' want to use for padding, stuff animals, winter coats. Happy packing!

Thank you so much for sending these helpful tips. I had never thought of putting things in the washer or dryer. I have not moved in almost 10 years so I am definitely cleaning out and making daily trips to Goodwill. It is too cold here for a yard sale so I am donating lots of really nice things. Today I did some packing and now I am treating myself to working on my D9P made from Ala Carte fabrics.

Love your ideas about using batting and fabric to wrap dishes in. We used this with my mom's estate, as no one planned ahead! You can also get roll ends from any newspaper......clean paper without the newsprint on it. They are generally free.
