DH named my Janome VEST, short for 'very expensive stipple thing'. I also call her Ferrari sometimes. The smaller Brother machine is just called little brother. The poor serger doesn't have a name yet.

My Necchi never had a name. She is 30+ years old. My two oldest sons were 4 & 2 at the time and were fascinated with her. I was busy with their newborn brother when they placed Smurf puffy stickers on her. They were so proud! The stickers are still there with the exception on Smurffette who fell off years ago. I think of her as The Smurf Machine although the name was never official. My Brother SE400 named herself. I pulled her out of the box and I swear she said, "Hi! I'm Anna Sophia! Wanna play"?? It was love at first sight and she is always happy to give me great stitches. My Juki was different. She wouldn't tell me her name until I proved myself worthy. Finally after two weeks of daily sewing, she stopped in mid-stitch and said very quietly, "My name is Ellie Bleu. Now lets get back to work." Every time I think of adding a fancy, expensive machine to our family, I realize all my needs are met and another is not necessary.

If a woman's work is never done, why start?
Procrastinate! It frees up time to quilt!

    1980's Kenmore - Kenny

    1950's Morse machines:
Blue - Donnie Blue (my Dad's name was Don)
Pink - Marilyn Rose (Mom was Marilyn - her grandmother that taught her to sew was Rose)
Lighter Pink One - unnamed as yet
Green - Lilly Mae (after her original owner)
Grey - Evelyn (her original owner and my grandmother's middle name)

a Singer 301 I do not yet own will be "Jean" (Mine and my Mom's middle name and the model of machine she taught me to sew on. And besides, everyone knows Jean is a Sewing Machine!)

I've never named any of my machines. They are just the new Pfaff, old Pfaff, the white in the closet, old serger, new serger.

There is no harm nor foul in having a little fun. If I want to be criticized for having a little fun all I have to do is re-visit my childhood and I think NOT!

My Baby Lock is called: My Sewing Machine. My Bernina, which I won, is called: My New Sewing Machine. Is there a prize for the least original? I think it is a hoot that so many of you name your machines. I just never thought of doing so. But, maybe, someday I will get inspired and give them names.
