In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
would you like to learn or become more proficient at.....mine are:
Applique - Since I'm cleaning my room I am putting some of the larger scraps in a drawer and will practice with those. I also put my freezer paper in there and will put in whatever else I might need for applique.
Machine sewn binding. I bought a binding foot earlier this year and am going to practice with that. I have some placemats that I've started and just need the binding machine stitched....may be a good place to start.
Learning to use the different stitches and feet on my machines.

Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
I would like to become more proficient at finishing my projects and not getting side tracked every project!!!!
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
I want to try more quilting patterns on my quilts. I can meander with the best of them, I need to move on from this.
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
Would like to be more proficient at putting photos or links in my posts on the Forum - since I just 'goofed up" with the one I just did!!

Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
I'd like to expand my FMQing as well. I can meander and stipple, do loops and swirls and a couple other really well, but in order to do anything more detailed, like feathers, I am going to have to have an extension table in place. I just have done everything to date on my Pfaff that I take to the retreat center with me and it really doesn't have enough flat surface to do feathers. So once again (or still), I am on the lookout for the "perfect" sewing table that my machine can sit down in or for a sit down quilting machine to fall into my lap. :)

Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
I really want to do a stack n' whack have fabric just afraid to cut it.
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
Points, points, points, but what's the point? That's what I need to concentrate on.
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
FMQ for me--I need to get enough confidence to do it more.
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
In 2015 I want to become more proficient at paper piecing. Supposedly Craftsy is having Jinny Beyer do the 2015 BOM and it looks like it will be paper pieced. I am impatiently waiting for them to have a link for us to sign up for the free class.
I am hoping I can handle one block a month and will have plenty of company for encouragement and support.

You can do it! I'm finishing up my first one and it was much easier than I'd anticipated. Just make sure your seams are consistent...with the fabric pieces being identical you can tell if one of the seams is too narrow. Goof on my part, but lesson learned. Thankfully it was only one block I had to fix.
I'll be working on snowballs. Avoided them in the past, but now I have the Angler 2 to keep the seams straight.
Also need to work on my quilting. I can do loops just fine, but would like some other patterns on my quilts.

Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
Quilting. All kinds, fmq, walking foot, stencils, etc. i want to quilt them nice without doing elaborate work. I will find a way.
And if there is a skill for how not to procrastinate, I want to learn that one too.

Thats what I would like to do. I do meandering and I've done some flowers but would like to do more detail in my quilts.

Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
I would like to make a quilt top for my family (rather than charity) and then learn to machine quilt it.
I would also like to get a plan together on what machine(s) to buy. Right now I only have an old White and even older Singer. Both are fine for basic sewing, but I'd like some of the added features (like needle down, etc).
I just can't seem to figure out what machine to get. A really expensive one that does embroidery ? Or two separate machines? I would love to eventually have one of those long arms with frame, but then which one should I get, and does that affect which sewing machine I should get? I'm really lost. Hopefully I can figure something out this year.

Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
I'm switching over my embroidery machine to a regular one. I need to get to know her and play with the stitches. And find my dang walking foot!
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
I want to get better at cutting out pieces and reading a pattern.
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
FMQ - I think I can, I think I can.....
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
I want to spend more time practicing FMQ, learn more about landscape quilting. Also try out my tumbler & dresden template.
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
I have helped my cousins do hand quilting and have kind of learned how to do it but in 2015 I would love to hand quilt my own quilt all by myself. (sounds like a 4 year old). But I do!!
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
Just get better at everything, FMQ, cutting material, confidence in trying new patterms.
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
Interesting thread! I've been quilting only for about 8 months so I have so much to learn; but I guess getting more confident with color & print would be top of my list. I'm all hung up on analogous color schemes or a color plus a neutral. It would be good to be more comfortable with combining colors.

Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
This is an excellent question. Hmmm I know my personal challenge myself quilt this year will be a Bargello. Now a skill I'd like to work on.....I will go with making panel quilts fun for myself. I have a bunch of panels but my mind goes blank sometimes for days when working with them. I love them and the look I get when the quilt is done. However I spend a lot of time frog stitching to get what I want.

Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
I would like to get better at FMQ. Maybe even purchase a long arm machine! ;)
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
I learned to hand quilt over 25 years ago and only tried machine quilting in 2014. I want to get good at all machine quilting. My big goal though is patience in the process. The other thread about being process or completion oriented really has me thinking about how impatient I get and that the rushing makes the quality of my work decrease. I don't have any UFOs, but I have things that aren't what I wanted when I started.
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
Throw me in with the FMQ group. I have started to learn, but really need to improve. I am still jerky with my movements. I have done several practice squares, and am in the middle of FM quilting a lap quilt right now. I can tell I am improving, but I'm not near where I want to be yet. My focus this year will be on finishing up UFO's and improving FMQ. Happy New Year and good luck to everyone on their plans.

Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
I want to try to applique for thr first time, and just be more organized all around. Makeing sure my quarter inch seams are true all of the time would be great also.
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
FMQ for me. I am getting better and it is flowing better but I still need much more practice to get into feathers, flowers and the like. I also want to do a log cabin quilt. Everyone says they are easy but they are so intimidating to me but I'm going to give it a shot.
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
I bought a walking foot and want to teach myself to machine quilt (better than what I've been doing with my regular foot).
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
I want to learn new quilting patterns on my long arm machine. It doesn't have a computer attached so it's all me. What I really want to get good at is feathers!!
Also I want to buy a serger machine this year, kind of a retirement present for myself. I am coming across several projects that I think it would be handy to use a serger.
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
FMQ and applique' - I've only done a very small amount of FMQ on practice squares, and I've not tried applique' yet :)
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
I would like to do more fmq, and get better at appliqueing. Also get my UFO's done, the pile is getting bigger!!
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
Ha ha. I glanced at yor screen name and at first I thought it was startover, which gave me a good laugh cuz I think that would be a good name for me. But starlover is good too!
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
FMQ for me, applique, feathers. And learn to read et write in english to talk and understand all your are writing ladies. Happy new year
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
Looks like FMQ and applique are topping the list this year. I need to do more FMQ practice also, I can do loops, hearts, stars and stippling. Working with pantographs is also on my list.
-
Re: In 2015 what quilting technique(s).....
My goal is to reduce the amount of stash I have. Have lots of quilts on my list--will see how many of them I get done. I would also like to learn to do some FMQ as I haven't tried that yet.
