Am I a Scrooge?
I hate to be a party pooper regarding Christmas . . . but, since I quilt in my dining room, I CAN'T WAIT to put away all this Christmas stuff! Time to get cracking on some sewing. First on my list? Jenny's Missouri Star quilt!! I think I'll watch the video right now to get in the mood :D

Re: Am I a Scrooge?
My mother-in-law took down the tree day after Christmas. She couldn't stand the mess the needles made. I used artificial trees. Left them alone as long as adult kids were enjoying and cats weren't climbing or eating. Kids usually took things down the weekend after New Years.
I've got a tabletop prewired artificial. I just shove it in a plastic bag and store it whenever I want to.
I made a nice mini tree skirt for it. That gets plastic bagged on its own and tied to the tree.

Re: Am I a Scrooge?
I take my Christmas stuff down the weekend after Christmas. I love Christmas decorations but cannot stand the clutter of all of that extra "stuff" around.
-
Re: Am I a Scrooge?
I no longer have any reason to drag it all out and put it up...........so I don't.
-
Re: Am I a Scrooge?
Nope I pulled down all my stuff to add room for the same reason! Christmas was great but it's time to get sewing again!!
-
Re: Am I a Scrooge?
Scrooge!?! Uh, NO! Mine is usually taken down the day after Christmas, however this year we're having a belated Christmas due to DS/DIL's jobs! Saturday will see it all gone and packed away! We really downsized all that stuff this year, tabletop tree, minimal decorations in the LR and DR. And large plastic, sealable bags are the bomb, stuff, close, store and go!

Re: Am I a Scrooge?
Lol... no - I was ready to get the tree out yesterday; our living room is small and I can't put my new to me sewing cabinet where I want it until the tree goes. My 19DD put on a sad face, so I agreed that it could stay up for New Years Eve... it goes tomorrow :)
I adore Christmas decorations, but like to keep it simple... it won't take long to put them away tomorrow.

Re: Am I a Scrooge?
I usually keep my decorations up until right after the new year, but this year I just wanted to get back to normal so everything came down and was packed yesterday. Today, I will put it all in the attic and be done with it until next year. I, too, want to start sewing and would not be able to do it with the idea of having to clean all that up over my head. Now it's done and after a quiet night with hubby bringing in the New Year, I can get up tomorrow and head to the sewing room. Happy New Year everyone.

Re: Am I a Scrooge?
My tree will come down tomorrow and the decorations will be put away. I didn't do a lot of decorating this year.
-
Re: Am I a Scrooge?
I couldn't wait to have "my" space back. I love Christmas but it looks so cluttered
for those few weeks.

Re: Am I a Scrooge?
The only decorations we put up this year was a Christmas tree wall hanging with lights! We put the kids (24 and 30) presents on the floor below the wall hanging! DH and I no longer exchange gifts and we told the boys not to buy us anything. We only wanted them to come spend time with us. We had a lovely meal at 1pm and the boys opened their gifts and we watched a DVD. Tomorrow they have asked if the big meal could be at 4pm so they can sleep in from all the partying for New Year's Eve! LOL
So no, you are not a scrooge!

Re: Am I a Scrooge?
I worked on that yesterday and today. All I had to do was shake the tree and all the needles came off. I'm surprised I was still getting the pine scent two days after Christmas, which I love. But I did first pull out the power vac and got all the needles and put them in my garden. Yes, I did take ALL the tinsel off first while I took off the ornaments. The town will collect the trees and put them in the lake for fish habitats...hence no tinsel or toxic stuff can stay on.
I just may do a few decorations for St Patrick's Day along with a nice dinner of Bubble and Squeak. Valentines Day is a no go, unless I make a nice homemade Doggie Heart for my Carlie. Now there is 100% devotion and no back talk. (We do however, occasionally get a power and control issue but she'd rather no get "that look" from me

Re: Am I a Scrooge?
Not a Scrooge at all. Remember how happy Scrooge was on Christmas Day?
I am fortunate to have a separate sewing room all to myself, so this is not an issue in my home. When I was a child, the tree went up in the evening on Christmas Eve and stayed up for 12 days. Came down on Jan 6 (Little Kings Day). Those days are long gone.
I suggested to DH we take everything down (not much anyway) to start 2015 off to a clean start. He said tomorrow will be good for the same reason !!! Everything will pack up into two large storage bins and go into the basement to wait for next year.:icon_hi:

Re: Am I a Scrooge?
I'm always glad to get my Christmas stuff down and get my dining room table back to sewing! My tree's been down since Saturday (but we put it up the day after Thanksgiving, and it was READY to come down!).
-
Re: Am I a Scrooge?
I have put up as early as the day after Thanksgiving and I have taken down as late as Epiphany, but every year is different. I say do what works for you. I keep my snowmen to put out when the Christmas comes down and I have decorations for every month of the year. I am putting out less each year, but it is nice to have changes. I like variety, but I hate clutter!

Re: Am I a Scrooge?
I love love to get mine out and LOVE to put it all away right before new year so I can start the new year off fresh and clean. All mine went away yesterday and today I have been cleaning away. I do have quests coming but then tomorrow is for me to sew!
-
Re: Am I a Scrooge?
I think I will take mine down tomorrow, too. I love the warm glow of the colored lights at night, while we watch TV, though. Maybe I could just string the lights around the window or on a lamp we don't use.

Re: Am I a Scrooge?
I usually start on NY day with the taking apart of the tree. My DH likes it lit up on NY eve. So tomorrow it will begin its return to the attic. I have a separate sewing room so I have been able to get in there. Finally started putting away all the boxes from deliveries we got from Black Friday plus! They just got put in the closet while I was finishing up the Christmas presents!
Today I realized I'm a bit ahead on batting!! I guess I had ordered it once before I did the ordering this week! Oh my!!!
When I saw the DD today I was in a buy it, don't buy it fight with myself! I just love those colors!! But sanity prevailed and I decided to copy the pic of it for future reference? ****!! it is so pretty!
So I hope everyone has a safe New Years eve and a healthy and happy 2015! I just hope the world gets kinder because it has been a tough year to like humankind. It's so much easier to be kind then to be mean and hateful!!!
Hugs to all who need it!

Re: Am I a Scrooge?
We had the last "relative dinner" yesterday. My DD leaves Saturday, so I will keep it all up until then. Then it's one room at a time to de-Christmas. I know I always miss something!! I sew in the dining room also, but I'd have to clear the clutter in the other rooms so I can really clutter up the dining room with quilting! I guess that's my way of getting some "control". Happy sewing in 2015 everyone!

Re: Am I a Scrooge?
I usually love looking at the tree between christmas and new year and take the tree down on new years day, but this year the clutter was getting to me so took it down on Sunday. Besides I want to sew on new years day so glad my decorations are put away.

Re: Am I a Scrooge?
I took my main tree down today. I like to get it up early (actually before Thanksgiving) and take it down by New Years. I like the feeling of a fresh start on New Years. I didn't get a lot of other decorations up this year b/c of remodeling projects this fall, but what I did get up is all down.
I do have a second tree. It's white with white lights and I decorate it only with snowmen, icicles, snowflakes, etc, pretty much all in blue and white, nothing Christmassy. It' in my sunroom, and I keep that up through February. I also have blue and white LED icicle/snowflake ligts hanging in that room, and a 4 foot lighted white wicker snowman. My DH and I do enjoy those lights through the long dark winter.
We didn't get any lights up outside this year, so nothing to take down there. This is the first time in 35 years of marriage that we haven't done lights outside, but we barely succeeded in getting the new windows in and the siding on, so we are celebrating that success!

Re: Am I a Scrooge?
Packed up all of our Christmas stuff today. I love it, but time to get back to "normal".
-
Re: Am I a Scrooge?
Fun to get it out and put it up, more fun to take it down and have things back to normal. When I was younger I liked having it up, but now that I am older, as someone else said it represents clutter. Mine is down and put away except for a large star in our front yard that will come down tomorrow.
