Question Squaring up 1/2" and 1/2" triangles

***title should be 1/4" and 1/2" triangles....
Ksborn posted this video under tutorials. I'm posting it here because I have a question that I thought more people would see in General Discussion. Here's the video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0OVx7nnh28

    And here's my question:
Deborah shows squaring up after ironing open the seam. In this situation, you have to square up all four sides. Another method I saw showed squaring up before ironing open the seam. Before ironing, you square up just the two sides. BUT, then you have to iron open the seam. Wouldn't that possibly create distortion? I'm thinking Deborah's method-though taking longer-would be more accurate. So, whatcha' think?

    I use a bloc-loc ruler: https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop...-sku-bl-hst-65

It make making half square triangles a breeze. I've also seen it done before pressing Quiltville's Quips & Snips!!: More than ONE Way to Trim a Triangle!

I don't have a lot of rulers, and would rather iron first then trim, since ironing not only sets the seams, but gives me a more accurate block to square up...........I found that if I don't iron first then they become a bit "wonky" just my opinion, but whatever works for you, is best. I would rather take the time to square each one and know they are the same, then chance it being off even a little bit, am still new to quilting, only been doing this for a few years so still have a lot to learn.

I don't know how to edit the post to be 1/2 and 1/4 so if anyone can either show me how or fix for me that would be greatly appreciated

I was thinking that I'd rather iron it open then square also. The other method would be quicker but-for me- would just cause more problems down the road!

I agree. Just did a bear paws table runner and the first block I squared then pressed and had to square them again. The second block I pressed then squared and they turned out much better.

I was wondering if anyone has used the HST paper and was it worth it?

I'm working on a Hunter's Star and used Thangles for the HST. I still needed to square up some. I didn't think it really saved any time with cutting the strips, pinning, cutting the strips and tearing off the papers. I was able to get the hang of it and chain piece the papers which did speed up the process some. I just found Laundry Basket has triangle exchange papers. If I use papers again, I'll try those to compare.
