Re: A Surprising Comparrison...
On my machine when I use the flange foot there is a setting where you are supposed to measure from the needle to the flange and move the needle to adjust to make sure it is 1/4 inch. Also, if I use thicker cotton thread instead of the polycoated cotton which is thinner it does change my 1/4 by a scant.
Interesting results thanks for posting that picture. A picture is worth a thousand words!
Re: A Surprising Comparrison...
Yeah, 1/4" isn't 1/4" everywhere. That's why I sew a project on one machine and don't switch.

Well, I did use the same mavhines but switched feet.... Never again!
Re: A Surprising Comparrison...
On using those 1/4 inch feet, some machines don't allow you to move the itty bitty bit over because of the center hole. Just be sure to handwheel down the first couple of stitches after you adjust it to see if it will work. Otherwise you can break a needle or part of the sewing machine.
Thank you for the pictures. It is amazing the difference just a little bit one way or the other of a 1/4 inch can make.

Sandy- Are you narrow or Medium? that could be the issue!

What do you mean?
Re: A Surprising Comparrison...
I guess the lesson here is to sew all your blocks with the same foot.
