If you don't want or need all the fancy stitches, look at the Juki TL2010Q. It does only the straight stitch and is fabulous for fmq!

I know that the 800 series Bernina has a large harp space. If the 700 series has a larger harp space, it would be the first series to do so. I'll do some research and try to find out. The Aurora series has a pretty standard harp space as does the Artista.

My Juki Exceed 300 has 8 inches to the right of the needle and is about 5 inches high. I've done some quilting with it and it wasn't terrible. Just got to practice bunching it up.
I agree that I've seen alot of machines saying they were for quilting that had small harps.
I wouldn't be scared to buy a Juki on line because so many of its internal parts are metal and not plastic. They've taken alot of the features from their industrial machines and kept them in the domestic machines. Juki needs to start paying me for all the nice things I say about them. LOL

Bernina 750 QE has a 10-inch harp. Don't know about the 720 or 730 yet.

The Janome 8900 and 8200 have 11" to the right and the 6600 has 9".

The Juki is indeed all metal and has the weight to prove it! I'm told as long as you give it a dash of oil every eight hours or so, you should have no problems.

When I was looking at the berninas I think you had to go to the 700 series to get the 10" harp.

I have a Bernina 550 QE and it is a machine for quilters but has a very small harp space. I'm looking at the Juki 2010 for my FMQ.
